I must say that I had a very bad experience with the management at Phenix Salon Suites in Tarzana, in particular, Mr. Curtis Jones. When I first moved in I was promised repeatedly that the suite would be ready over and over again, but there were always delays. I was charged for 7 days my first week there even though I was only there for 5 days. Curtis Jones didn't seem to care. He said it was "basically, the same thing." However, when it came time to credit me he said, "Bottom line, I'm a Black Jew. Don't mess with my money."
The suite was a mess with paint everywhere, newspapers, food, and trash. I had to clean up Curtis Jones' mess. The sink wasn't installed properly and the hot and cold were reversed on the labeling. My co-workers had to cancel appointments because the suite wasn't ready. He acted like I was inconveniencing him and that it should be my job to do construction on my rental.
There was absetos falling from the ceiling onto me and my clients and this made me very sick for days. There was extremely poor ventilation in the rooms and my clients complained of difficulty breathing. I couldn't stay in the room for any more than an hour without getting dizzy. My clients also complained of dizziness.
Curtis Jones and Phoenix Salon Suites have NOT responded to any of my complaints and concerns and decided to take the money I gave them in the deposit and not refund the week it wasn't ready. I was going to pay Curtis Jones some rent I owed and instead of accepting it as payment, he changed the locks on me and locked all of my belongings inside. I had thousand dollars of equipment in there and I don't know when I will recover it. Curtis Jones also destroyed personal property of mine and was very disrespectful. Curtis Jones probably thought he could make more money by stealing my personal property.
Phenix Salon Suites is NOT what it portrays to be on CBS' "Undercover Boss" TV show. They are straight up slumlords and will kick you out for being a week behind on the rent. DO NOT rent from them. Choose wisely. There is a reason why they have so many vacancies. Poor management, poor customer service, poor ethics and morals. Do NOT let the TV show fool you. CEO Gina Rivera may be a very nice lady, but her franchisees like Curtis Jones are horrible people who care nothing about you and your business.

Everything the original report says is true. I experienced the same lack of cleanliness and greediness with Curtis Jones at the Sacramento Phenix Salon. The Phenix name and concept are a class act and it's unfortunate for them that they are affiliated with Curtis because he does not do the franchise justice. Curtis idea of clean vs. middle class Americans are night and day. The site I worked at had trash in every room, extra furniture and fixtures piled every where. Out of 20 available suites not a single one of them was suitable to show a prospective tenant. There were water leaks everywhere, paint spills on the carpets in all the hallways, the salon had been open for 6 months and there was still construction debris everywhere. Curtis prefers to rent to low class stylists who end up not being able to pay rent and bring down the atmosphere Phenix strives to to achieve. Between the ghetto music blasting in the hallways from salon doors left wide open because the ventilation and a/c don't work well to the over powering smell of chemicals the whole "spa experience" is more an offense to the senses than anything else. There's nothing relaxing or classy about the sites Curtis oversees, he's super cheap and makes bying decisions based solely on price and doesn't consider the effect his decisions have on the overall experience. Curtis main concern is filling each suite with a warm body regardless of their ability or desire to pay rent. and pocketing their $250 deposit. He doesn't use t he deposit towards the salon he keeps it for personal use and the salon suffers. I was expected to pay out of pocket for software I was required to use. Curtis told me he would look into getting me a corporate license but he never did. Curtis is more interested in promoting events and the salon mgmt is just something he does for the money. He boasts that he owns the salon when in reality he has no $ invested and is just a site manager. I'm sure eventually the franchise owners will see through his facade and send him packing, these things have a way of working themselves out. Until then I would not recommend renting from a site that is managed by Curtis Jones.

I'm am shocked at the claims made in the report
everything mentioned in this report is a completely
fasle I rented a suite to who seemed like an eager
businessman Ready with partners to share a suite
at the brand new phenix saLon suites.
it turned out that he did not have partners and
could not afford the weekly rent.
he brought his situation to my attention and let me know
he would be two weeks behind on rent I told him
ok but get caught up as soon as possible.
A few more weeks passed and he was over $1,000
dollars behind.
I would like my accuser to provide proof that our brand
new location in beautiful Tarzana Ca, is dirty as he
claimed.
also I invite the community for daily tours of the location
Gina Rivera is exactly what Under Cover Boss showed
on CBS.
And me and my team are committed to supplying
an opportunity for stylist to have there own space.
I will not slander the person who wrote the false claims
