Owner/Manager has not returned our refundable deposit on VRBO354577 that we cancelled 8 months in advance of the date that we were supposed to rent house.  We discovered that the property was listed for sale and also listed on auction.com.  (We did not pay the refundable deposit by credit card as Mr. Nello did not want to charge four different cards for the transaction. Four of us were splitting the rental to attend the BNP Paribas Tennis Tournament in Indian Wells - 2017)

We decided to cancel our reservation on July 26, 2016.  James Nello/Owner/Manager said in an e mail that the check would be returned to us on July 29, 2016. We have followed up with phone calls, e mails and a letter with no response.  VRBO will not mediate the "dispute".  VRBO suggested that we post a negative review on the property.  Unfortunately VRBO is not set up to accept reviews if you havent actually stayed in the property.  We have had numerous conversations with VRBO and to date they will not disclose what action they have taken against Mr. Nello.  He has numerous properties listed on VRBO in the Indian Wells area.  VRBO354577 is still listed as for rent.  It did disappear from showing up on auction.com shortly after Mr. Nello was asked why it was showing as a foreclosure property.  We highly recommend that no one rent from Vacation Rentals in the Desert or Mr. James Nello.  Another business name that they may use is World Vacation Rentals.

 Update: We received our deposit refund September 29,2016. Issue resolved. According to the landlord the delay was due to the check being lost in the mail. He also provided a credit towards another booking due to our "inconvenience".
