After many months of going back and forth with 24 Hr Fitness, having to provide them with copies of my personal bank account to prove they received my payment and it was never credited back to me, they discovered that they applied my current years payment to my EX Husbands account. We have been divorsed for over 3 yrs, which I had told them.

His account was already inactive for 4 years, my name had been changed on my account, the check for which I paid my dues had my new name. They refuse to apply my payment to my account or reinstatement my membership. They are willing to do a rewrite but 1) wants payment again for current year and 2) the terms on the new contract clearly state the renewal rate of $49 is only good for one 12 month period.

Along with paying an tremendous amount of money to start my membership, my original contract included a renewal rate of $49 yr for life. They tried to tell me not to worry about it, that that rate would be honored. In other words they suggest that I should sign something that makes a statement contrary to what they are telling me and not what I would agree to.

I understand that they have changed their contracts in regards to the renewal rates over the last several years. I guess this is a way to get rid of a contract they don't want to honor and force me into one I don't agree to.

Now, when I check in, the screen actually states that I am not allowed in!! The local gym is letting me in and understands that we are trying to find a resolution, which is not seeming to happen, but I can not access other gyms in the meantime, which is what I do when I travel.

Bottom line - I paid my dues, they acknowledge that, but because of their error in applying it to someone elses membership, I am being punished.

As I'm sure you can tell by now, this ordeal had caused an enormous amount of frustration and anxiety for me. I'm hoping that making others aware of horrific customer service and blatent rip off tactics will help...if it saves one less future victim.
