24 Hour Fitness Mistreated, ripped off and Accused Carlsbad,California
24 hour fitness is a poorly run organziation. This organization bought out my previous gym membership and I have had nothing but problems.
All this started with Q sports in 2000, when their automatic debit systerm went bad and Q sports would blame their members (myself) for non payment of fees. I received notices that my account was overdue. I called Q sports and verified they had correct credit card info and that they would debit account as part of my agreement.
I would then get another notice the next month of the same problem. After 6 months of this behavior, being accused of having overdrafted account, fraudulent practices and such by Q sports representatives, I gave up. That was August of 2000. I never heard from them for months.
I called in November 2000 to find out 24 hour fitness has bought out Q sports. Great, so maybe my problems will cease, I can use my membership and the lies will stop. NOT!
I left messages many times and told I would get a call back from 24 hour fitness reps. NOT! I received a phone call in June of 2001 requesting money. I needed to pay them back dues to the tune of over $400.00 if I wanted to use my membership. Excuse me but, I had a good working address, phone number for the past 10 plus months with no communication from this organization.
I called them to make things right. Oh, give us your credit card info again. I told the rep to send me a letter to confirm that we (24 hour fitness rep and myself) had talked on this date in May 2001. Once I got that letter, I would start to pay their 400 dollars in 4 installments. I told them they needed to accept some responsibility, as I had contacted them and gotten nothing from them. Well I didn't get a letter and follow-up'd in June with no returned phone calls, dispite leaving messages as they requested.
Fast forward now to August of 2001. I spoke with Corporate HQ in Carlsbad, CA. I got an account rep named A. Vega. It took many phone calls and attempts to get his man on the phone. In his favor, he did have 24 hour fitness accept some responsibility for their lack of follow-up, communication etc. They would "ask" that I only pay half the amount owed. Once, that was accomplished, I would receive a membership card and be able to use my gym memberhip.
I sent 24 hour fitness a certified, return receipt letter with payment in November 2001. They received the letter and I received the receipt. NOTHING ELSE! No gym card, phone call or anything in writing from them.
March 2002. I am in Seattle and would like to use my membership that is paid thru 3/02. They did a "write-off" and said I didn't have a membership according to the systerm. I met with the mgr of one of their clubs in Seattle a few days later. I brought my file of documentation. This information was copied by the mgr. The mgr contacted corporate HQ and A. Vega. A message was left for this person to call the Seattle club mgr. I would receive follow up once the mgr spoke with the person in corporate HQ.
Meanwhile, I got another memberhsip and have been using it faithfully.
May 1st, 2002- Leaves me with no follow up from Seattle Club mgr to date. I left a message with this mgr about 10days ago and haven't received a phone call about it. I called myself today and spoke with her. It was referred to a supervisor at HQ but no date given to me. They had the wrong number written down as primary number but didn't bother to call secondary number!. I will update when I am told what is up, but in the mean time:
24 hour fitness cashed a check in 12/01 for over 400 dollars and did nothing to get this member her card and to date, hasn't attempted to contact this member to right their wrong!
