I was in the market to purchase a new camera when I came across 86th St. Photo & Video. I could not believe how low their price was, now I know why!

They are following the same high pressure sale technique that I read about on Ripoff Report as practiced by The Digital Nerds.

After you place an internet order with them they send you an email that directs you to call them to confirm your order at which time they use high pressure tactics to sell additional items that they insist you need with the camera.

If you decline, as I did, they abruptly hang up on you and e-mail you that your purchase is on back order for 2-3 weeks.

I think that this is a very misleading way to do business; if the item is not available you should be informed when you place your order. This is commom practice with many other internet companies that I have done business with.

I cannot believe how similar this experience is compared to the report I read about The Digital Nerds on Ripoff Report. Now I know why both sites have such low prices; they suck you in, then try to sell accessories at inflated prices.

I also checked out their return policies and it seems like you have to jump through hoops to make a return and you only have 7 days. If you'd like to read an entertaining return policy check out their website. You may not be able to cancel the order once it's been placed, even though they have not even filled your order yet. What's up with that?

At any rate, be warned before you purchase any items with 86th Street. You may regret it.
