Complaint Review: A-1 American Heating & Plumbing

 Based on the fact that a local television station includes A-1 American as a recommended firm and the fact that they offer coupons, I contacted the firm to have my disposal replaced.  I already had purchased a disposal so all the technician had to do was remove the old one, and install the new one.  He also had to do some minor rewiring.  The person who called me after I submitted my on line request for service said that they could do minor electrical work.

I should have known better than to hire a firm whose phone number doesn't work during normal business hours.  You have to submit a web request for service.  They charge a $78 service call fee and THEN give you a price quote.

For work which I expected to only cost around $200 I was charged $465 with the coupon and a military discount.  I should have paid the service fee and kicked the technician out of my house.

He was rude from the get go, didn't seem to know what he was doing.  I called the manufacturer of the disposal twice to ask questions and get directions for the technician.

He up and left twice - while I was on hold to get him help.  The company repeatedly called him to the point where he couldn't do his work.

To top it off, he kept dropping the disposal and damaged the bottom panel of my kitchen cabinet.  Numerous times I offered for him to place a little step stool underneath on which to rest the disposal.  He was an unprofessional jerk.

NEVER AGAIN will I engage this firm nor any other firm which refuses to provide a ball park price in advance for basic plumbing services.

They want payment by check and, without getting permission, he took photos underneath my sink of the disposal and piping.
