"A BBB or RRR ?
Check me out ! I was Commercial Manager of the Denver Area Better Business Bureau. (Back some 35 years ago.)
W.Dan Bell was General Manager at the time. He pioneered efforts to establish various Trade Groups for the purpose of policing their own specific Industry's business practices and build Consumer Confidence.

How did I become Commercial Manager of the BBB ? I was taught and groomed into the position by none other than W. Dan Bell. He taught me the importance of the Free Enterprise System, Truth in Advertising, Consumer Confidence, and all the good things that come from being honest in the Market Place.

He also taught me how to recognize the evils, such as Misleading
Advertisements, use of Rebates, etc. (The etc. included relying on State and Federal Government to solve industry problems.)
Golly, how things have changed !

I left the BBB to take another position that allowed me to have the time I needed to care for a family member. A few years later Mr. Bell passed away. And it seems that much of what - that Great Man stood for - has passed away as well.

EDUCATE ! I believe the Truth, the Whole Truth and nothing but the Truth, about our Free Enterp[rise System, should be made available to our Bussinesses and Consumers alike.

The BBB, could, play a positive role.
What about RRR ? Well no, I don't thing RAPE - REBATES or REGULATIONS by the State or Federal Government, will build Public Confidence or help any Business that is interested in Industry Success and Integrity. - L. Opatril "

1 Updates & Rebuttals

I confronted certain individuals with questions regarding the Better Business Bureau

I was looking for Rebuttals from the BBB regarding the Better Business Bureau (BBB), I did not find any. I doubt that there will ever be any. When I confronted certain individuals with questions regarding the Better Business Bureau, Image, Purpose, Origin, etc., I didn't get any direct answers either. My assumption was that they didn't know what the original intentions were in creating a BBB. And/or if they did, they were so off base there was no resemblance to the BBB of yesterday.

Recently I asked 3 gentlemen, that I was doing business with, if they were members of the BBB. They said: "Yes.". I asked: "Why ?". Of course, they had not expected me to ask "Why?". Their replies were troubling to me. I guess the only way I'll be able to find out what the BBB of today is, is to keep asking the same question.
