I have been mistreated and scammed by A Citywide Mover and its henchman, Dan Adams. On May 23, I was surfing the internet looking for quotes from movers. I had just graduated from college in Atlanta, GA and needed to move everything from my apartment back home to Seattle. After putting in my move criteria at a website, I received an e-mail quote from A Citywide Mover claiming that they would be "happy" to move me, they would be able to move me during the time I requested, and that it would cost $750 for the first 1000 pounds and 50 cents for each additional pound. Since all I had was a small 1 bedroom with hardly any furniture, this sounded like a good deal.

I replied to the company and told them that my plane ticket to Seattle was on May 28th so they would have to come pick up my things before then. They said this was fine and they would call me and tell me when they were coming. They NEVER called. I had all of my things packed and ready and was just waiting and waiting. I kept calling to find out when they were coming and kept getting vague answers from Dan and NO answer from the Atlanta branch.

Finally, on the day of my flight home, the atlanta office called and said they were on their way. Well, at this point, I was debating as to whether I should miss my non-refundable plane ride and trying to find other companies. Once they called, I thought everything was okay and decided to take my flight and let my friend stand in and watch over the movers and sign the paperwork.

Big Mistake! The movers did not give my friend a copy of anything she signed. They told her they would fax/mail me the copies. They never attempted to contact me to get my fax number and they never mailed anything! I called both Dan and the atlanta branch at least 8 times trying to get a fax and they kept saying that they didn't have it, the other person did (i.e. Dan doesn't have it, Atlanta does and vice versa). Also, when I was speaking to Dan before I agreed to the move, he told me the move would only take 7-10 business days. So I kept calling wondering where my stuff was.

Finally, about 3 weeks after the movers took my stuff, Dan finally faxed me a form that my friend signed. However, it was hard to read, said that the delivery date was "to be decided", the signature was cut off, and it looked like there were charges for long carry and stairs which contradicted the initial quote which said NO CHARGE for stairs or long carry at origin. Also, my friend told me that she signed 3 or 4 sheets, Dan only faxed me 1.

It is now July 12th and I have not received my things. My things were taken on May 28th. I have called Dan repeatedly as well as the Atlanta office and am being given the run-around. Sometimes they say my things are on their way, sometimes they say my things are still in Atlanta. Dan never returns my calls, he sounds evasive and has an attitude. I asked if there would be any compensation for my long wait and he said no. Then he suggested that I could get another mover if I wanted and just pay them for the storage!

They've already taken $750 from my checking account! My things are NOT supposed to be in storage but here in Seattle. I just finished college and cannot afford new movers. I am about to start my new job in a month and will not have any of my belongings to move into my new apartment! I have contacted the Better Business Bureau and am trying to see what I can do legally but it looks pretty hopeless.

Basically, I lost $750 and all of my belongings from college (bed, futon, TV, VCR, CDs, pictures, movies, sentimental things, microwave, desk, books, etc.) Don't make the mistake I did. Stay AWAY from A Citywide Mover. They are a bunch of A$$holes.

I've noticed that on another complaint about A City Mover that a salesperson from A City Mover tried to claim that the person was actually complaining about A City Movers. Don't let them trick you. It's all the same. I hired A CITY WIDE MOVER to move my things from Atlanta to Seattle. Well, this company also refers to itself as A CITY MOVER. And I am looking at a fax from them and it says A-CITY MOVER & STORAGE. This is the company that actually came to my apartment and picked my things up. Therefore, the 2 companies are at least affiliated if not the SAME! The website for A-CITY MOVER & STORAGE is www.acitymovers.com (notice the "s" in movers) The website for A CITY WIDE MOVER is www.acitywidemover.com. Basically, don't do business with ANYONE with the words "A", "CITY", or "MOVER" because they are working together to scam honest and innocent consumers.

Remember, I contracted A CITY WIDE MOVER to do my move and this is the company that I see on my credit card statement, HOWEVER, A-CITY MOVER are the ones that actually moved my belongings.
