Maytag issued a recall on a refrigerator Relay that was a fire hazard, dated 03/12/2009.

They sent me A & E Factory Service to replace the Relay on 03/18/2009.

Later we discovered that our refrigerator wasn't cooling our food. Warm air came our of the cold area compartment when we opened our refrigerator door. Everything in our freezer compartment was totally defrosted and warm.

Even though it was late at night, we called A & E Factory Service and surprisingly they answered.

After telling them that all my frozen food was warmed over and subsequently lost, as well as some of my cold food, they did nothing about it and blamed Maytag.

Roger, the manager on duty, told me that he has been getting calls about the same issue since the recall started. Roger was not a very nice guy at all. He was rude and discourteous... just a real jerk. He wouldn't pay for my lost food, he wouldn't take any responsibility and he wouldn't send anyone out to fix what they screwed up in the first place.

They knew they were installing a faulty Relay since the recall started, yet they choose to ignore all of the complaints they were getting and installed that faulty Relay into my refrigerator and now I not only lost my food, but also the cost of icing what I had left and my lost wages to get it fixed right.

After calling Maytag and telling them my complaint and of A & E Factory Service's knowledge of installing the defective Relays... Maytag in their infinite wisdom, is sending A & E Factory Service to fix my refrigerator AGAIN!

It seems to me that A & E Factory Service is not only making money off of Maytag by installing a defective part, but they also make money going back and repairing it.

Bottom line is that A & E Factory Serivce are dishonest, discourteous and are crooks.

I don't know about you, but I'll never buy a Maytag product or use A & E Factory Service ever again.

A & E Factory Service admits mistake, but won't take responsibility

#2Author of original report

Fri, March 20, 2009

03/20/2009 A & E sent out another service technician to fix the problem the first one caused.

The repair took 10 minutes to complete. He said that this problem wouldn't have occurred if A & E sent a refrigerator technician, instead of the washing machine technician they sent me the first time around.

He said that all of the refrigerator technicians got a service bulletin that gave them the correct installation instructions for this recalled relay. So what the washing machine technician did was mis-wired the relay.

So after the refrigerator technician left, I immediately called A & E to tell them that they caused the problem by mis-wiring the relay that caused all of my food to spoil. I asked for a name and address I could request reimbursement. Jay (the customer service idiot) simply refused my request and told me (again) that it's not their responsibility, even if the first tech caused the problem, they will not reimburse me for anything.

Fortunately, the receipt I got today clearly says that the relay was mis-wired by the first technician. And as I suspected in my original report, they are charging Maytag for the service call. The first bill was for $70 and this second one is for $219.

In all fairness, the Technician that fixed my refrigerator today did a good job for me. But I must say that A & E's customer service sucks!!!
