In June, 2018 I shipped an original piece of fused glass art through the company. I am the artist that made the piece. I sent it to our son and new bride for their wedding present. I paid A & J $307.30 to pack it, ship it and I insured it through them for $1200. The item arrived badly broken and could not be repaired. They asked for photos. I sent them multiple photos. They at first told me that FedEx would not cover it because the corners of the box were not taped properly. I told them that THEY were the ones to pack the item and that THEY are responsible for packing it properly. Then they told me that I had to give them a receipt for the purchase of the item. I told them I could not give them the receipt since I was the artist.
Then they asked me for the receipts of the materials used to make the item and I told them that I could get the receipts, however that would not cover the cost of the many hours of labor and kiln time used to make the item. Then they asked me to send them photos of similar items and I sent them many websites that had similar items and they showed the cost of the item. They have refused to take responsibility for the broken item and are saying now that their insurance company will only offer me $100 total. I was NEVER told at shipping that the item would only be covered for $100. Additionally, when I first went in to talk with them about the breakage, one of their agents told me that they have had similar breakage problems with the person who packed it who happens to be from a different location. I am asking for the refund of the packing, shipping and insurance cost that I paid to them of $307.30 plus the cost of the item at $1200.
