America on line free trial.??? Before the time period was up called to cancel. Had to call one phone numberto talk with billing about 45 mins. then had to call another number to talk to the community action commity another 45 mins, Then another number to the cancellation Dept. another 45+ mins.

The next months credit card statement came and to my surprise AOL had billed me $23.90 surely I thought that this must have been a mistake.

I called aol to try and figere out why this might have happened, and they told me that the billing dept was not the dept. that I needed to talk to. that I needed to call the cancellation dept.I told them that I had called them and cancelled, they informed me that they had nothing more to talk about and gave me the number to call.
After the 30 + min. on hold this person told me that they would credit my card for the $ 23.90.

My next months statement came and looking for the credit. I was SHOCKED to find no credit and once more A.O.L. charge $23.90 WOW what's up ?? Back to the phone the 30 + min's on hold and they told me that I needed to cancel my account. I explain that I went thru this in the months past . They checked and saw that there had been no activity on the account and told me that they would now credit my card for the two months charges.I did ask for some kind of cancelation # and the name of the person I was speaking with.

During the next month I called my credit card co. several times looking for the credit. And it had yet to be posted SURPRISE October credit carde statement A.O.L.$23.90 This is getting old A.O.L. is STEALING MONEY from the american people.GOD HELP THOSE that do not have the TEN HOUR'S and more to spend on the phone And still not be able to cancel there account..HELP

They won't stop billing you, I know, I've been there. Last year, I called and canceled, I received a cancellation number. They were charging our phone bill for 8 months after the date they told me that it would be cancelled. My husband was paying that bill and aparently didn't notice. When I went to pay the bill and found out I couln't believe it. I called them back to cancel for the second time. Except this time they told me they couldn't speak with me, the account owner has to cancel. Even though I still had the cancellation number.

Yes, it was my husband that fell for the "free" trial. It's a trial allright! I filed a complaint with the BBB and got a refund for 3 of the months, since that's Aol's policy, to only refund you for 3 months. That way they can keep your money.

The BBB is only good for having proof that they were notified since you can print out the claim you made. Call your credit company and 1. Tell them that the charges are bogus. 2. You might have to have them issue you a new card + number because AOL is a slimy company and will probally keep on trying to charge you, even if your card co sends back the current charges. Go on the BBB website and file a complaint- print it out. This way you have proof that they know about the bogus charges. Again the BBB is usually only good for the proof- if you print it out, and maybe getting up to the 3 months back. Hurry and do this quickly before they get more out of you, because doing anything short of taking the time and expense of suing them will not get you any more than payback for 3 months.

What will probally happen, as in my case, is you will get a check from AOL for the tree months. But don't hold your breath, because it will take months to arrive. So remember to contact your credit company and do and dispute the charges and see about getting a different number. Because if they get you for another month (the 4th time), you might as well wave goodbye to that month's payment. Good luck!
