I visited with my mom later on, in the afternoon of 6/29/11, and asked her about the new paperwork that was on the counter.  She told me that "some man was here and sold me something".  She didn't even know what it was, but  this prompted me to call the salesman, Lanny Vorce.  He told me he knew of my mom being with National States Insur. for her long term care, and what he was doing there, was selling my mother an additional plan.

Lanny told me that my mother needed further care, and he then explained the policy he wrote.  He wasn't aware though, that just 2 months period to his visit that my mother was diagnosed with Dimentia/Alzheimer's.  i call this elderly abuse!

My name is Charles Harris and I am the attorney for ASSI.  The complaint is inaccurate and contains grossly misleading information.

First, ASSI is a Service Contract company, not an insurance company.  ASSI routinely accepts members who suffer from Alzheimers and in fact did so with the member in question.  The status of the members Alzheimers does not preclude her from receiving the benefits of membership.  In this instance, as is the case in all new membership applications, a customer survey was prepared by the prospective member in the members own handwriting stating that she read the membership information, approved of the terms and benefits of membership and knew exactly what she was purchasing.  ASSI works in addition to traditional Long Term Care and many of ASSIs clients have both an LTC policy from a traditional insurance company and a True Freedom Service Contract from ASSI.  The daughters complaints represent a fundamental misunderstanding of the True Freedom Service Contract which has important benefits for all ASSIs members including those suffering from Alzheimers.
