My mother-in law went to AAmco and complained about her 92 ford ranger would not go into 5th gear (manual trans). 2 days later she gets a call from victor that the 5th gear needs to be replaced. this would be $500.00.
she says go head they needs to get home to newport OR. 1 1/2 days later there is a call saying that the whole trans needs to be overhauled and would cost 1205.00. and this where i get involved i call up to speek to shop manager stacy says i am a gm for 11 stores and i can help you.

I tell her that this in not right fix 5th gear and she says that she will take care of all except the clutch and the 5th gear. That is what happened my parents went on there way about half way my mother saw that the temp was way hot and turned the a/c on and it cooled down. from the shop they smelled burning fluid and it was hard to get into gears.

She took the veh back to victor and he told here that is normailand she will have no problems.

she gets back home and the trans gets worse i call stacy and tell them what is going on and they tell me i need to get it to a AAmco to have it checked. this trnas is bad and needs to be towed so they pay for a tow to the nearest AAmco which is a 100 mi away, so they did.
now i am calling AAmco (they are not calling me so i have to keep in touch) they put 90w fluid in the trans when it needs ATF (automatic trans fluid) i called for a full refund and victor told me that puting 90w
in the trans that is a honest mistake and the warrinty will take care of that.

James i hope that you see the error in your response~~~~~this case is dealing with a STANDARD SHIFT transmission.~~~And i'm sure that you don't know that some heavy duty applicatons that use the same seals internally as the ones that use automatic transmission fluid use motor oil~~~~~THATS RIGHT JAMES "motor oil" check it out on hd747~md643 these are transmissions used in buses/heavy applicatons and they are subjected to more load than a car transmission~~~~Why don't you tell me why they do that and they don't fail?????? TO JAMES THE TECHNICIAN

James~~~~it sounds like you are giving technical information on things you need more education about~~~the plugs that i am refering to are neoprene~~~~~please check the properties of neoprene are far as being inert to oil and the heat specs. This is the main cause of leaks in these units~~~~if you know anything about leaks you'll be able to see the light~~~~~~as far as lubricant goes~~~~the 90w will not cause a failure~~~if you look back in time at the transmissions that have run for the past 40-60 years were all lubed with 90w or motor oil and now 80/90w or transmission fluid the main reason that this is the lubricant used today is because of the properties of the oil itself~~~~for examples you can read about get a subsciption to: practicing oil analysis.com this will educate you to the reason i am saying this to you. I hope this helps~~~~~THE TRANZMN

you must be joking when you say putting this 90w fluid in the trans did not cause a problem. ANY other fluid used in an automatic transmission other than atf or fluid specified WILL damage your transmission. automatic transmissions are so sensitive, enev if the corrct fluid is old or burnt will result in blown seals, overheating and so forth. another great law suit, this person who had 90w oil put in thier trans should be given a complete refund of all expenses. as far as rubber seals leaking, lol, how the heck do you think they started leaking in the beginning? BAD fluid!!!!!!

No oil ! ..The 90w did not cause the failure

Since ford has had many failures of this transmission due to the rubber plugs leaking the lube out.

The 90w did not cause the failure the lack of oil in the transmission is whats the problem ~~~it could leak out from a worn out slip yoke on the driveshaft , that could have been caused during the failure of the last tranz.

Leaks are what kill standards. The way to check for this is to look underneath the truck on the floorboard about the front of the driveshaft , there should be plenty of oil to see.

They should of caught this when it was removed the first time, it would of been easy to change the slip yoke and save all the future leaks~~~~~~~~~The Tranzmn

Ask Victor

Since Victor say's it's an honest mistake, and the warrenty will take care of, ask him to put it in writing for you so that you can forward it to your folks, and they can show it to the AAMCO repair shop that is doing the work. Just my 2 cents worth.
