I gave aamco transmission to fix my transmission, how ever they asked me unaffordable price $2100. I told them I am a student. I don't have money to pay for it. Then they say you need to pay 700 dollars for us to reassembly my transmission, but I disagree and I ask for discount. In addition I ask them to give me discount to rebuild my transmission($2100) I know the problem it doesn't cost that much, so I waited so many days fighting on the price. Finally they concluded $1600 and they say the will finsih on the next day. But the manager keep giving me lots of exuses and my car stayed five more days in there.

So now I am stuck without ride for two weeks, so I ride my dad car but it is very difficult to share one car for two people. Now I am hoping I may get my car in my hand after this weekend and I am not sure what is the next excuse is going to be. I pray they will fix it right because I am tired of their excuse and their dishonesty not fixing my car on the right time and I hope my car ride smooth and good.

Suggestion for Danile re Aamco Transmission

Danile,

I can understand your frustration with Aamco and thier unethical tactics and outrageous prices, HOWEVER..

Always get all of the costs in writing BEFORE any inspections or work is performed. This is very important.

Also keep in mind that these types of shops do not give discounts because you are a student, unemployed, etc. If you do not have the money for repairs, you should shop around for a small shop or individual with less overhead to do the work.

You never mentioned what type of car it is, so it is hard to tell what price is fair. Also, I am confused about you stating that you knew it wasn't that much to fix. Are you a mechanic?

If you don't have the money to properly maintain your car, you really shouldn't have one. Ride the bus or get a bike.

I just want to be sure I have this right...

You took your car to AAMCO, and decided the price was too much.

You wanted them to just put it back together, and they said they would, for $700.

You wanted a discount, presumably because you are adorable.

You also want a discount on the proper repair, again because you are just so darned adorable.

After playing the waiting game, they agree to a $500 discount. Now, you don't understand why they didn't drop everything and hurry up with your car...the one that the mechanic is doing for less money than he would have otherwise earned.

Here is how it works in the auto repair business. There are three ways of doing any type of repair...Good, Fast, Cheap. You can take your pick of any TWO. Which ever two you choose, the third choice is immediately preceeded by the word NOT.

Next time you want to haggle over price, go to the Garment District in Manhattan. As you can see, it doesn't work too well at ANY repair shop.
