Transmission repair job was sublet by ALL PRO Automotive to AAMCO shop in Jacksonville. The first rebuild failed 20 miles outside of Orangeburg, S.C.Stranded in Summerville for two and a half days for transmission rebuild.Missed my Mother's funeral ceremony in Battle Creek, MI.Left Summerville with an intermittent fault. PCM module? Fault reappears in St. Mary's, GA. Transmission does not lock up in 60 mph zone. Overheats and fails. I drove it in third. Truck is back in the shop where it was rebuilt initially. Awaiting installation of a valve "that is reputed to solve the problem." Average wait time for warranty repairs is two and a half days. Manager of Jacksonvill shop completely passive. "We made a mistake." No apology, just the inconvenience of missing a day of work. The first transmission rebuild lasted 5 hours/250 miles before catastrophic failure in South Carolina.

Hey Gerry
I understand where you are coming from being put in the middle of things when you refer someone to a speciality shop. My question is
Why do you refer in the first place???

Its understandable your concern, but for your own satisfaction why dont you just tell the customer that you can not recommend either way and hand them a phone book and let them make their own decisions.

Joe why did your guys put the cork gasket on the pan? Trying to save a buck. Doesnt it bother you that you are giving reputable AAMCO shops a bad rep?? Sure enough, Joe replaces the cork gasket with a neoprene one and so far so good! Those shortcuts will bite you in the fanny everytime Joe. The Good Lord only knows how many people are driving one of Joe's AAMCO time bombs! The AAMCO warranty is the best in the business! Victims, stand by for some major inconvenience while guys like Joe fix your transmission again.

Hello,

After reading all the horror stories about transmission repairs and even General Automotive repair.I would like to respond from a Shop owner view on the subject. Being in the car repair sector for over 20+years i have to say i too get taken by Aamco scams and ripoffs and a lot of the times my shop is stuck in the middle of it.

What will happen is i will refer my customer to an Aamco or a Third party shop for work we do not perform.

My shop makes very little money off of being the middle man to help out our customers. A lot of them do not have the time to handle all of the details. What will happen is i will take take the car to the trans shop for work to be done and then the nightmare begins. Lies and estimates costs a lot more happen. They will keep the car for days and days .Most of the time the Trans does not shift right the first time!!!! have to keep sending it back.In the mean time my shop catchs the Rath of the poor unhappy customer.

This goes for the SO-CALLED good repair places and mass suppliers(JASPER ENGS too.) I get taken to court for their lack of quality of work. example I buy Rebuilt engine From Jaspers or any one else sell the customer an extended best warranty i can so they will be covered.

Well guess what?!!?Engine or rebuilt Trans fails.!!! The buck passing starts going around!! Of course my shop always gets blamed for doing something incorrectly!! 99% of the time after paying for the tow to get the car to my shop, giving the customer a rental car at my expsense. It will turn out to be the REBUILDERS FAULT!!!!!!!

So now i have to deal with the the screaming irate customer(I do not blame them). Then i have to DEAL WITH THE SCUM that sold me the rebuilt trans or eng. Yes they do play the B.S. run around game with the Jobber Guy. It is unbelievable that most corparte franchise places have policies like that!! THEY DO NOT CARE!!

Myself and other indepentent repair shops will eventually quit doing a lot of Engine&Trans replacements due to the fact it is a major major HEADACHE!!Trust me for the few hundred dollars profit it is NOT WORTH IT!! It should be agaisnt the law for place convicted of Fraud to be able to offer a WARRANTY!! Warranty means NOTHING!!!!!! Gerry

Here we go again! The truck is back at All-Pro. Joe gets to fix the transmission a third time! The truck ran very well with the "magic valve" installed but the transmission died again this past Friday morning. It was exuding what looked like fluid that had congealed or something. AAMCO has the best warranty in the business and they get to prove it again. Sorry, Joe, you're stuck again! Maybe this rebuild will be definitive???????

They do it right the first time????????

In all fairness to AAMCO, (they dont deserve fairness)I report that after having had the transmission rebuilt a third time by AAMCO, the truck has been running very well (knock on wood). If they had been on the ball technically, it would have saved the involved parties a ton of grief. The Atlantic Blvd shop installed the magic valve assembly with the magic valve assembly installation tool and all has been well for the last two weeks. Aggrieved customers should have head of the line privileges when they bring back a botched AAMCO repair job. They shouldnt be treated like second class citizens and have to wait days to get their vehicles back. Wake up AAMCO and smell the coffee!

AAMCO Transmission shop has had my truck for four, going on five days now. They allegedly installed a magic valve with a magic valve install tool. ALL-PRO returned the truck back to AAMCO late this afternoon (13Aug02) because the transmission was slipping. The AAMCO people at 8721 Atlantic Blvd, Jacksonville, FL, have no clue as to what is wrong with the transmission. My truck has been in an AAMCO shop going on nine days total as of today. These people obviously do not know how to repair late model transmissions. I am out over $2000 now counting lost wages, motel rooms, etc., etc. When will they make an end?
