Here is a summary of our experience. You can see the full story at www.dontgoaamco.com!

We should have known we were in trouble when they called us the day after we took the car in and said it was going to cost an additional $500 for "hard" parts above their estimate for close to $2000 rebuild.

Approximately 19 months later the transmission went out on the way back from Montana to Oregon (the nightmare begins), we had to pay to tow it to their shop (over $100) and it cost us a day of work. We got the vehicle back just before leaving for a trip to New York from Oregon. Approximately two days into our trip home, the fluid began to leak (on a Sunday). Our only choice was to keep adding fluid until we could get to an Aamco Monday. We called the Aamco "locator" phone number and left 2 messages to find the nearest Aamco - never got a call back. So we spent a fortune in cell bills to find the closest Aamco in Utah (40 miles out of our way). Called, told them the situation, they said come in and they will take a look and gave us directions. When we got there they said "oh, we can't get to it until this afternoon or tomorrow morning". We said forget it and kept adding fluid going home. This had already cost us 1 day worth of work by the time we got home due to the extra stops to add fluid and our little detour to Aamco - so much for Nationwide Warranty (unless you have a lot of time on your hands). When we got back they fixed the leak. About three months later (December) the van lost first and third gears. I made it clear I wanted that transmission as good as new since the warranty ran out in a month and I didn't feel comfortable having it fixed so close to the warranty deadline with no extension. 4 months later (less than 3 months after the warranty ran out) and only 2,000 miles the transmission went out AGAIN!!! When I expressed my displeasure at the fact that less than 2000 miles after the warranty ran (and it was last supposedly rebuilt) the transmission died again they said they wanted to keep me happy and would tow it free to their shop and take a look. I get a call the next day, "we'll fix it for $800 with a 1 year warranty or you will have to come get your vehicle at your own expense". I said forget it and I would see them in small claims court. See my web page at www.dontgoaamco.com for info on how easy it is to sue in small claims court and how it can seriously help settle your claim to your advantage.

Hi, my name is Kurt Enge, and I am the Manager at the Tigard, OR Aamco Transmission and Complete Car Care Center. I have been managing this location for one year, as of December 1, 2010. Prior to managing this store, I managed multiple Aamco Centers in the Puget Sound area near Seattle, WA.

This review is extremely old, and in no way does it reflect the current Owner and Manager business mind-set. We are extremely honest and caring towards our customers and work very hard to provide cost efficient repairs in a timely manor. We do go above and beyond for our customers, and demand that each and every employee do the same.

My office is open to all of our customers at any time and I invite your questions and will be quick to address any concern you may have, no matter how big or small it might be.

Any past issues, even those dating back to 2001, will be happily reviewed for consideration on current and future repairs.

Yours in Service,

Kurt Enge

When the warranty runs out, they seem to forget about all the times you returned for warranty service

Aamco Transmissions - terrible quality and even worse service (#4976)

They filed the following rebuttal to the above Rip-Off Report:

Their email: mack01@earthlink.net
Their name: @Rebuttal_Name@
Their phone number: @Rebuttal_Phone@
Their relationship to the company: Owner

Rebuttal:
That was a good move to take the suckers to court. This is a lousy company. They offer the best warranty in the business but what good is a warranty when you have to keep taking the veh back and the warranty does not restart.

When the warranty runs out, they seem to forget about all the
times you returned for warranty service. One thing you have to remember is, AAMCO has been in business for over 30 years but the franchisees and the builders have not. So when you get work done at the center, take a look at the age of the builder and clearly tell he has not been doing this for over 30 years.

What AAMCO should tell you is, we have been screwing
people for 30 years. If you wants quality service go to a local facility that will give you better service and a less of a headache.
