On 6/5/02, I took my car to Aamco Transmissions for transmission service suggested by Jiffy Lube and to find the source of a noise I was hearing when I drove at a reduced speed ( 5 or so miles p/hr.) or when coming to a stop.

Outside of the noise, my car drove perfectly. On the evening of 6/6/02, I picked my car up from Aamco and was charged $267.30 for Diagnostic Service, replacement of the driver's side axel one source of the noise), and replacement of transmission fluid. Outside of the need for break work, another source of noise, I was told there was no problem with my car.

The next day, the car went dead and I had to call a towing service. I called Aamco and asked what they had done to my car because I had absolutely no problem with drivability.

They towed it into their shop, called me the following day and said the problem was my battery. I told them I had recently purchased a new battery, and if there was a problem, it was caused by them.

Then, they tried to tell me I had a problem with my alternator. All of this, after just doing a diagnostic and telling me the car was o.k. Of course, it's their word against mine. I may have to replace parts that were working just fine until they got their hands on them.

My car is a 1995 Nissan Altima, on which I have 45,498 miles, as I primarily use it just to drive to and from work or the market.

Marva did in fact bring her vehicle to our shop in Randallstown on 06/05/02. Her description of the problem she was experiencing was "fluid leaking, hears a noise, noticed a little jerk pulling off from a light, noise on right and left side, louder on driver side."

My customer service manager gave Marva a ride to work after she dropped off her car. We did a thorough External Diagnostic Service on the vehicle and noted the following: need two tires due to improper rotation, fluid level and condition ok, did not notice jerking, squealing from brakes, need brake pads, right caliper and turn rotors, initial engagements ok, driving conditions ok, driver side c/v boot torn, axle grease depleted & contaminated. Recommended services included Safeguard Service (fluid, filter, gasket change) and replace driver's side axle including boot. Marva approved the work.

The work was completed by the next day (06/06/02)and was delivered to the customer with no incident. FOUR DAYS LATER(06/10/02)Marva contacted us with the complaint of the car being "dead". We towed the vehicle to the shop at our expense and once again did a thorough External Diagnostic Service on the vehicle. We found that the battery was dead due to no water in one of the cells. We suggested replacing the battery but Marva replied she had recently done so. We then suggested having the alternator looked at by a neighboring repair center. She refused. I then offered to take the battery back to the store and work it out with them(possibly under a warranty)as a courtesy to her. She refused.

Every attempt was made to assist Marva in her situation, but she did not accept any solutions we offered. I am sorry we could not help.
