Complaint Review: AAMCO

AAMCO, Webster, Texas Transmission Repair

I have no way of proving what I am going to say but it certainly is very suspicious! My car has been down shifting sometimes when I drive it in Overdrive! I took it to the AAMCO station in Webster, they said they give a free inspection! Supposedly they put it on the computer and then told me that there was nothing wrong with the transmission--that they did not get any codes!
A couple days ago I discovered that my transmission was leaking and had to add transmission fluid--and then the next day I discovered that there was not one drop of antifreeze in the radiator jar! Since I had had my car's oil changed and they are suppose to check the levels of all fluids I could not believe that the antifreeze could have evaporated that fast! I took my car to a service station that I have been going to for 25 years for them to check the transmission cover and gasket. I was asked if someone had worked on it because all of the bolts were loose and it looked like someone had worked on it--I told him that AAMCO was just suppose to have put it on the computer and he said they would not have been required to take the cover off underneath the car! Do you suppose that they could have done this in order to have my transmission fail and need a repair? I might have taken it to a dealer!! It is hard to believe that someone would do such a thing--of course being a female they take advantage. But it sure does look as if someone did something--to have the fluid leak and no antifreeze all at one time! I would hate to think there are people like this is this world.

#2UPDATE EX-employee responds

I am an ex-employee of AAMCO Transmission. I used to be a center manager. I can understand where a consumer feels like they've been taken advantage of or ripped off. With the reputation of most transmission repair shops, it is hard to find one that will honestly tell you that a problem your experiencing is not transmission related. The mere thought of creating a transmission problem with hope to gain this person's business, only generates suspicion.

Hopefully those reading this letter will not ever need a transmission repair, but if you do, choose a facility that will provide you with an accurate diagnosis, and the information detailing the needed repair. Price is important, but don't sacrifice a good, quality repair!!! I know from experience in this repair industry that a few hundred dollars that you may be saving yourself could cost you more grief and inconvenience.

I started at a independent transmission repair shop back in November, 1998. The shop owner used to belong to AAMCO. They dropped the AAMCO franchise and re-opened with the family name. I am still with the same independent shop, but have worked for a AAMCO shop and Gene Brown's
Transmission(local franchise), somewhere in between. I have been most successful selling transmission repairs and learning the trade at the independent shop. It seems almost like people are attracted to a "family-owned business", as opposed to a national name.

Just remember, when choosing a transmission repair facility, make sure that it is one you feel comfortable with, can get the job done right, and back it with a warranty! If you are in any way disatisfied, notify the owner. You'll be suprised with the interest that they will take in your complaint.
