Able-one Restoration caused us months of problems after our fire

we had a fire back in March of 2001. That is when we met Jon Hengehold owner of Able-one.

He led us to believe that he was going to take care of our repairs to our house and clean our contents. We had to let him go because we found out that he was not doing the electric work up to city code and that he was using an unlicensed electrician.

All his repairs were done half way and used the lowest materials on the market, after he had quoted for higher grade materials. He removed contents from the house;clothing, furniture, kitchenware, childrens toys, etc. The only thing he cleaned was most of the clothing,My wife and i cleaned the rest of the contents, including some clothing.Jon Hengehold also threwaway and giveaway alot of our property. To make a long nightmare short,Jon Hengehold owner of Able One Resteration kept all our contents for nine months, because he wanted us to pay him all the insurance money for the structure and content cleaning.

We finally had to settle out of court because my family needed clothing and household items.Jon hengehold was payed alot more then he deserved!Able One caused i and my family nothing but months and months of problems!

this is a ploy used by many contracting, remodeling and home construction

Tell 'ya what, John........

Years ago I had a business that subcontracted work to nearly all of the local "fire restoration" companies. I never had a problem with any, had a very amacable relationship, and
was USUALLY paid promptly.
.
To cut to the point of this post: I observed nearly ALL the restoration outfits immediately accepting all available incoming jobs, regardless of their current work load. The next step was to START the job, ensuring they were "locked in" on the job, therefore making it unavailable to their competitors. Almost without exception, the jobs weren't finished in the time projected to the homeowner. If they had given an honest answer to when the job would REALLY be finished, they wouldn't get the job. It would just go to another outfit that would tell the customer what he wanted to hear. (and another stretch of the truth)
.
To be fair, this is a ploy used by many contracting, remodeling and home construction businesses. This wouldn't excuse the alleged shoddy work aluded in the initial post, however.
.
Most of the completed restoration jobs I witnessed produced a marked improvement over the pre-fire condition. New kitchen cabnets, drywall, doors, trim, etc. Nearly all the homeowners with which I was in contact, weren't happy even with the insurance company-paid improvements. Why were most unhappy? The job was usually completed months after the scheduled date. That pretty well offset any work done very well by the restoration contractor. Sad.

When i met the insured as i do with every fire, smoke, water content cleaning of structural repairs i let them know on how long it will take to get them back mostly all insures undewrstand that the adjuster & i have to do a scope of loss and come to a scope of work price before we start in this case i could not start until the adjuster said it was ok, which took almost two weeks which is pretty fast. The fire started in the kitchen on the stove which caused a grease fire and damaging the entire kitchen contents. I told insured that all the cabinets and appliances has to be special ordered due to the kitchen floor slope @4% and the floor has to be raised. The kitchen was going to take 3weeks to get the cabinet & counter tops here. The insured is a nice man to our staff and myself but, some insured don't undersatand on how the claim takes time when it comes to fires you just don't start the next day or week, you have to investigate the fire on what caused it and what is covered to the policy of the insurance company. About the electrician, we thought we hired a lic. electrical contractor which he lied to us. Yes, we hired a lic. electrician but that doesnt hold us to have this on this web site.. I understand the complaint but would like it removed for non accurate information. I'll check within a couple of weeks. then go from there.
