Warning to Academy customers. They have nice ads & stores, but buy it and it is yours! I bought one of their "Austin" store brand shirts. Wore & washed 4-5 times. It shunk up about 4 inches in length! I took it back. They wanted to give me $2 for it. I paid almost $20. The cust sv rep said they were so bad, that they just discontinued them. Sounds like a reason for a refund to me. Unfortunately, I just purchased a very expensive piece of excercise equipment from them. I regret it. I was in the store weekly, but I am finished with the cheap b__tards for life. I hate it when you get ripped by a place you regularly shop. Lesson learned. There is a sports authority across the street. I guess I'll take my chances there. Disappointed.

There are several reasons why a particular item will go on clearance. Either we're getting rid of our old stock and making room for our new, the stock is out of season, the event the clothing represents has already passed, etc. Normally if all shirts (like the Austin shirt you described) shrunk for all customers, it is normally recalled, taken off our shelves and sent back to the warehouse.

You probably only received $2.88 for the shirt. If you bought it for $20, that means after you bought it, it went on clearance for $19.88. After that, $14.88, then to $9.88, then to $4.88, then to $2.88. It had to have been on the clearance rack for quite a few months. The only reason we wouldn't give you back the amount you bought it for is if you didn't have the receipt. We would then give you store credit for the price we are selling the shirt at that point in time.

How are the customer service associates able to tell you from the customer who just bought a $2.88 shirt that happened to shrink on them after a first wash and trying to claim he bought it the original price and the person who legitimately paid the full price but waited WAY too long to return it?

I'm not exactly sure your problem with the exercise equipment. If something was wrong, we normally do take it back and offer you an exchange or a refund. You really haven't elaborated on your situation.
