Acer Aspire Screen Issue, Internet

We purchase a Acer Aspire laptop for our daugher, as a Christmas present.  It was purchased on December 22, 2011.  After under two months of use (2/12/12), we turned on the computer to find half the screen covered with blotches and lines.  The device had worked perfectly the evening before, was turned off, and put away.  There was no way any "trauma" could have befallen it.  We tried to return it to Wal-Mart, but of course, they referred us to Acer. 

It was difficult to understand the customer representative on the phone, but the jist of the conversation was that we could return it, but if they found it was our fault, we would have to pay for repairs.  From the research we have done, it seems it would be a waste of our time to send it the repair facility in Texas.  We scraped together the money to be able to afford this as a Christmas gift, and we certainly would not have mistreated it nor tolerated the mistreatment of the computer!  We would have to save to be able to afford the repairs! (We own a (((competitor's name redacted))) laptop and (((redacted))) laptop as a family and have gone for years with no problems at all.)  We will not be choosing Acer again.

  sorry, allowing you to give a competitors name would instigate others to just file against their competition, to only come back later to suggest their company, ..plus, if you post a competitors name more than likely they will show up on search engines as a Rip-off! - - your comments on this policy are welcome.
