This internet seller operates several websites, and has been selling 16 GB Fake Capacity SD Flash Drive memory cards on a well known auction site, as well as www.tagloot.com.  I have contacted several buyers encouraging them to test their cards using h2testw and all responses have confirmed the cards are FAKE CAPACITY cards, meaning each card will only store 1.9 GBs, and have been intentionally digitally alterred to read as 16 GB memory cards.

The result of using these fake flash memory cards are loss of data, ie, a buyer uses the card to video a wedding, and upon playback days later, there is no video.

When contacting Greg (who claims he did not know the seller, though they were sold from his auction account) by phone, he indicated no other buyers had any problems, and they had sold over 300 of these cards with no problems.  We counted 60 sales on the auction site, with proceeds of aproximately $3000 in sales.  Using the sellers numbers, these folks have scammed $10,000 from unsuspecting buyers.  We suspect many were sold on www.tagloot.com.

Buyers of these items should test their cards using h2testw immediately, and if found to be false capacity, contact their credit card company or payment processor.  They should also file a report here, and contact SOSFAKEFLASH.

After doing a bit of research on the seller, the sites are ran by Gregs (ex)wife Jules.   Buyers that were scammed are reporting in regularly with confirmation of the fakes.  Please report here if you have been taken by acesdistributing, www.tagloot.com, or any of the other sites operated by these folks.

Tagloot, Dump and Run

#2Author of original report

Tue, November 10, 2009

Tagloot, aka Gregory Allred & Jules Allred, aka acesdistributing, conducted a common internet scam of dump and run.  They dumped false capacity memory cards at a $32-60 price range.  Once consumers realized the cards were fake, they cleared out their bank accounts so that consumers could not file disputes and recover their funds.   Consumers are left with useless cards and lost data.  Buyer beware!  If you have been take by tagloot.com or acesdistributing, please report here to prevent it from happening again.
