I rented a cellular phone from Action Cellular for a European business trip in Feb. 2000. I used the phone and returned it within two weeks. I then received an invoice stating that my American Express card had been charge $293.12. I thought I was pleased and never thought about the company or the transaction again.

Then on my July 2001 statement from AmEx there appears an unauthorized charge for $547.25 from this same company. After repeated phone calls, I was finally told that there were additional charges which they had just become aware of and that those charges had been placed on my credit card. When I asked how in the world this company could even imaigin this was appropriate or legal, I was told that it had the authority to charge my card at any time it wished. If there are more charges it decides are due in another 18 months, it can do so.

American Express investigated but then sided with the company because the company provided some documentation and AmEx is not in a position to investigate the validity of the documentation. I reviewed the list of phone calls and do not even recognize most of the phone numbers it says were made by me. Simply amazing.

This company has been beligerent through this whole process and refuses to admit that there is anything wrong with charging a customer's credit card 18 months after the fact.
