I looked on-line for a reputable company to purchase an adjustable bed. I found Adjustable Bed Direct and on their website they state that they've been in business for 30 years. I felt that was an accreditation.

On 11/28 I ordered and purchased the top-of-the-line Double/Full Adjustable Frame bed with full vibraton, and with the inner spring mattress - as advertised on their website. The person on the phone said the price would be $1999, so I placed the order and gave them my credit card information. I was told that a copy of the invoice would be e-mailed to me. When this didn't happen I let them know and I again requested a copy of the invoice - which was not honored a second time.

A delivery date was set for Fri., Dec. 14. In the meantime a large box with no markings to indicate the contents was left on my front deck. The delivery guys arrived to set up the frame. When they opened the box and removed the contents we discovered it was a foam mattress so I called the company immediately.

I spoke to the manager, Michael Peterson, who told me that I ordered a foam mattress. I questioned that and they stated they had no record of me saying that I wanted a coil (spring) mattress. Then both the salesman, John Martin, and the manager said that both of them and Corporate office had repeatedly listened to the recorded phone conversations leading to the order and that I never stated that I wanted a spring/coil mattress. This is patently untrue. In discussions with them I stated 3+ times that I wanted a spring/coil mattress, NOT a foam. I wanted to hear the 'recorded conversation' but wasn't given that opportunity.

When I told Michael Peterson that it had been suggested that I contact the TV news channels which investigate questionable transactions to consumers, he became irrate and threatened to take me to court and sue me for slander. He then said that if I wanted the correct mattress it would cost me an additional $400 - since the inner springs are so much more expensive than the memory foam - and he wouldn't charge me the shipping costs. I was so upset and flustered I agreed to this.

In an e-mail to me, Michael stated that I "can keep the existing mattress as a gift" and that I could post it on-line for $700 and get my money back that way.

I've already contacted the credit card company to dispute the $2399 charge but I'm not sure if I'll be able to recoup my loss.

On 1-4-13 I received another box - supposedly the correct mattress. I looked at the box and it is a mattress for an RV, not a bed mattress and not an inner spring mattress. I was charged $400 for this two weeks prior!

If there is anyone out there that can help me, I would truly appreciate it.

This is an update to my past complaint.

Based on several communications with Adjustable Beds Direct and Michael Peterson, ABD and I have come to a fair and satisfactory resolution. Michael Peterson has promised to credit my credit card for the extra $400 that I was charged for the coil mattress after shipping me a foam mattress that was not initially ordered. He has also promised to have the unordered foam mattress picked up. I'll be 100% satisfied when these promises are kept.

I also contacted the mattress company who apologized for shipping the correct mattress for an adjustable bed in an RV mattress box - which is a result of an issue with their box supplier. They assured me that the mattress shipped in the RV box was the correct mattress as originally ordered, and apologized for the confusion this created.

I'm very happy that I could update my original complaint by reporting a positive outcome.

Thank you.
