Upon calling company, they offer to schedule service call for $185.00.

Our battery (in the wall mounted control unit went bad in a similar fashion-low battery alarm every 4 friggin hours.

Ours is an older, GE Simon 3 system and it was a simple matter to order the battery from the battery manufacturer and replace it myself.  However, with the Simon 3 you have to perform certain steps in a proper sequence so it doesn't lose its programming.  Fortunately, the complete installation guide is available on-line as a free download.

These batteries do require replacing every 3 to 4 years-just the way it is with these type of rechargeable batteries.  If you've had your system for over 3 years then I think it was time for the batterie to be replaced.  I don't think this was some "pre-programmed" alarm to cause you to contact them for a service call.  Rechargeable batteries, even the lead acid ones, do go bad over time and need replacing.

Also, the wireless sensors (doors, windows, etc) have batteries in them that require periodic replacement as well.  If you haven't had to replace them yet, you're going to eventually get sensor failure alarms in the near future.

Service calls are always expensive.

The batteries do need replacing periodically.  That is the downside to installing a wireless alarm system.  These type systems are called "lick and stick" by the profession and is the easiest and cheapest method to installing a system.
