ADT SECURITY SERVICES, INC ADT ripped me off for over 2 years and when presented with irrefutable proof, they simply stopped replying to letters. Springfield, Virginia

ADT has fraudulently charged my family for monitoring services over the course of almost 3 years despite the fact that our homes telephone was a VOIP service (through VONAGE) and according to ADT's own technicians, our ADT home security system would NOT work with a VOIP phone service, meaning that in case of an emergency, the system would not call the police or other emergency services. Not only did ADT mislead us into paying it hundreds of dollars in monitoring charges, but it provided us false security for almost 3 years. ADT and Ms. Wills have systematically ignored our letters dated July 28, 2008, August 15, 2008, and February 16, 2009. All letters were sent with "return receipt requested" so we have proof that ADT received our letters. ADT Security is quite diligent in its billing practices, but when it comes to admitting its mistake and doing the right thing, ADT Security has no conscience and should be ashamed of itself. I will never again use ADT Security and will instead use similar service from Brinks Security, now called Broadview Security or Honeywell Home Security. I would love to file suit against ADT Security for its fraud, but I know that I am at a disadvantage when it comes to the capacity to spend on legal fees. A mark of a good business, small or a multi-national, is how it treats its customers in adverse situations - ADT Security is one of those companies that has absolutely no regard for its customers and is only after the almighty dollar.

Monitoring..

While this part probably does not help you now, it may help you in the future.  One is a "Cell Backup" another is using TCP/IP(Internet).

Both of those are extra and above the standard monitoring.  I know several that offer the "Cell Backup".  If can't really mention them without it getting redacted on this site, but when you call around to other companies be sure to ask about it.

As to what to do about your current situation.  If you had VOIP at the time of installation and they still installed it and are charging you, you have a very good Small Claims case to get at least some of your money back.  The good thing about Small Claims is that since there are no lawyers you can probably file the suit for under $100.  If you converted from a Land Line to VOIP during your contract, you may have a problem with the claim that it is their fault.  In either case you need to look over the contract to verify your position to decide if you do have a case.

Broadview?

Trust me when I tell you that Brinks/broadview is no better.  If fact may be worse.  It's better to go with a local security company.  Check your phone directory.  they are smaller and will respond to your needs.  The big alarm companies just want your money.

Also, don't be fooled by the commercials where someone calls you right away after a breakin, the call will probably come from India.
