Complaint Review: Advantage America

I was called on 9/15/05 from this company stating they work with the government to give out grants & that I had been approved for a $12,500.00 grant. I need only pay $49.95 to get it started. That didn't sound too bad.

After listening to their terms, I decided that after the phone call was over that I wasn't going to do it. All I needed to do was wait till I received my welcome package four to five days hence. Well the four AND five days went by and nothing. More than a week later I finally received the package - they claim it was delivered on the 24th of September but I was more than vigilant in checking my mail; I didn't want to be billed this money.

Finally on the 30th of September, I got my package. I had to wait until the seventh day to call. When I did, I was told the money was already drafted (on the 3rd of October, no less!) and that I would not receive a refund - I would file for a grant and be happy with it. I spoke with two different people: Joanna Smith and Mary Bell.

Both could not transfer me to Valda Spring, their alleged supervisor. I demanded to speak with her and was given two different stories from both women. I highly doubt the names they gave are true, nor would it surprise me to learn that all the names are unregistered aliases.

I found this website after doing some checking and want to share my similar experience. I also sent an email to the TV station, WESH to Michelle Meredith on their I-Team to ask for assistance. I'm to understand that more research has been done and a trail followed to Canada where there's a number to call the Royal Canadian Mounted Police - COLT Project. That number is 514-939-8304. I left a message and hope they call me back soon. When they do, I'll update this post.
