I purchased an Advent TV from Best Buy on 12/24/02 and not long after the remote stopped working and the TV makes a high-pitched noise while it's on. I tried to return the TV to Best Buy but because I didn't purchase the service plan, they will not exchange my television.

I called the warranty number on the information that came with the TV. Since the manufacturer's warranty is good for one year, I should be covered. One problem... no one at this number answeres the phone. After I was on hold for over 10 minutes, I got a recording that said, "Due to high call volume, all of our customer servcie reps are busy. Please leave a message and someone will call you back." So I left a message and never received a returned phone call. I left a total of three messages and not one was returned.

I felt that Best Buy should take some responsibility here since they sold me the TV. With no service plan, they will not do anything for me.

I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and found a phone number for Advent. I called it and the guy had no idea what I was talking about. He said that the Advent name is owned by Primo and gave me another (800) number to call. I called it and got another recording to leave a message.

I tried the website - www.adventaudio.com - but it's "under construction" and has been since early July.

I'm stuck with a TV without a working remote. I even tried a universal remote and it won't work either. There is nothing more annoying than a remoteless TV. Any ideas on what I can do?

Best Buy should take some responsibility for selling defective products, but communicating directly with the manufacturer is also a good option. The best way is in writing, so that you have proof. Your Report did not mention whether or not you have your receipt. I hope you do, because without it, this becomes more difficult.

This business has a reputation for unanswered complaints, and the unwillingness to resolve customer disputes. This is going to be an uphill battle for you.

They have an Unsatisfactory Report at the BBB. A business has to be really rotten, before they'll even come close to acknowledging a given corporations alleged thieving. I just wanted to list this toll free number, you might have this already: 1-800-225-9847.

Better yet here is their address:

Advent Audio
2950 Lake Emma Road
Lake Mary, FL, 32746

I would think at this point you would be asking for a full refund. If you don't have the receipt, that would have to be an exchange of the same product, most likely. Your letter should detail the sequence of events that occured during your purchase, your payment method, with photocopies for "proof of payment" enclosed.

You also mentioned accessing the web site. The address posted above is the same for the sites Aministrative and Technical contact. This division may not have authority to handle refunds, but has to tell which one you need.

Mr. Craig Dykes takes care of this, and is also connected to the same address. Finding the same address is good in terms of stability. It doesn't look like they're moving around, on the run.

Here are some other numbers to try, while your Certified Signature Required letter is in the mail: 1-407-333-0900 and FAX: 1-407-333-8903.

The Registrant for the domain is: RECOTON CORPORATION (ADVENTAUDIO4-DOM) (their bold caps).

This information was just recently updated in the WHOIS ARIN database, and expires in June 6, 2004, one year. Don't take too long with whatever decide.

Hope it works out.
