What I am stating here is my personal experience, you may be lucky and have a better one with this "recruiting" company.

I had an appointment at 10 am with Richard F. at Aerotek. When I showed up, the whole waiting area looked like a farm, there were no seats available and barely any privacy in the whole office between the workers, people being interviewed and people waiting.

When my interviewer arrived (R.F.) we didn't have a room to properly seat and have a professional interview, all rooms were occupied, he had to interrupt two other interviews in process as he was looking to find a couple of chairs.

We ended up in the building's lobby (Zero privacy).

After a 30 conversation, he told me he will send me right away an email with the client's information, to see if I liked the job description, and I was supposed to send him a few references ASAP.

1 hour after my interview (still haven't received the mentioned email with the clients information) I proceeded to send him the references. There was never an email back from him, acknowledging the receipt of my email (proper thing to do) and after 3 days....I still haven't received the email from him with the job description and client's info. Important to mention that I left 2 voicemails reminding him....

Overall, extremely unprofessional.

I have registered so far with 4 other recruiting companies in Massachusetts, all of them in Boston and these is what I received:

Professional staff.A private area where you will be discussing your job goals and options. An email usually within minutes after you leave their office with a follow up on your conversation. They DO return phone calls.
An update every 2-3 days on your job search.

How Staffing Companies Work

I read your comments and I understand your situation. Before I begin, I'd like to say there's no reason for him to neglect you or dismiss your calls. He IS responsible for at least returning your phone call and speaking with you. So from my understanding, you're basically bashing a company for not returning your calls and calling them unprofessional for it.

Recruiters are not out to find people jobs. It's a common misconception. We work for the Client--NOT for you. If you were to pay us to search for a position for you, then you'd be hiring a HEAD HUNTER--not a recruiter. They're completely different animals.

Recruiters are obligated to find the best fitting person for our clients. It's possible the position was filled internally (the client found someone on their own), another recruiter filled it, or the job was washed or put on hold.

As for your opinion of the facility itself...Why would you even agree to interview in an area that wasn't secure? You could have let the recruiter know that you'd prefer to keep your information private and that you'd like to wait for a room to open. He was merely trying to get you in and out as quickly as possible as a courtesy to you.

As for the 'farm' comment, Aerotek has commercial and professional divisions. It's possible you were in a room full of light industrial workers, but what should that matter? We interview a ton of people daily through phone exchanges, interviews, and lunches. That should be a good sign that we have high volume and are a sucessful company. Do you feel like you're the only one looking for a job?

In your defense, I did try my hardest to find a person by the name you provided and did not turn up any results. Perhaps he's already gone or you have the name wrong. Why wouldn't you have called the secretary (main line) and ask to be transferred to him or to speak with one of his partners? Aerotek employees always leave the name of a partner that could be reached.
