I rented a car from Affordable car rental in Hilo Hawaii May 3,2023 until June 8 2023. During that time the car was vandalized with scratches. I did not notice this damage until I was informed by the car rental place so I immediately filed a claim with my insurance company. Affordable car rental charged by credit card and I disputed the charge because I had filed with my insurance. Once my insurance contacted affordable and asked her to send over estimates which she failed to do because she said they did not deal with insurance companies that was up to me. That I had to pay up front. She sent my account to United Legal Group an collection agnecy $6135.48 said this is for interest even thought the original amount is for $1436.10 this company has made up this fraudulent charges even though a check from my insurance has been sent to her for 1530.90 once she finally complied with the insurance company. Affordable has been paid but still has me in collections. This was an on going insurance claim that should have never been sent to United Legal Group. Unnited legal group states i still owe them money for their work on this case. Thisshould have never been sent to them so if any money is owed they should get from Affordable Car rental. These two businesses are scammers working together.

Most rental car contracts specify that if you don't buy their insurance, you are responsible for paying them for any damage immediately upon returning the car, and you would then be responsible for dealing with your insurance.  So they were within their rights to collect from you.  It does seem that going from $1400 to $6000 likely involved something unlawful, so I would talk to a lawyer.

Discuss this with your insurance company. That's why you pay for their service.
