On July 27, 2004 I paid $250 to Sherry Ann, a paralegal with Affordable Law Solutions, to complete a bankruptcy. The paperwork was virtually complete when I sent it, I only needed a paralegal because I was unsure of proper format. A month later, nothing had been completed, but I needed a change made. She agreed to make the changes.

I called periodically from September to December and her response was that she hadn't forgotten; she was still working on it. On January 3, 2005 Sherry Ann claimed to have mailed the completed bankruptcy, but it had been returned to her because of a wrong address. (The address was typed on the original paperwork that I had sent.) I gave her the address again.

In February, there was still no bankruptcy paperwork. By early March, Sherry Ann said she would mail a refund along with the orginal documentation I sent her. She never offered an explanation as to what happened to the supposedly completed paperwork.

In April I was informed that the orginal paperwork was "missing". It must have been "lost in the mail". She claimed yet again to be sending a refund (without the paperwork now).

May 2, 2005: still no refund, no paperwork, and a lot of debt accumulating over the last 10 months.

Just get at attorney to do it.

For another $250-$350 plus the filing, you could have had an attorney do the whole thing for you (assuming it was a Chapter 7).

The bankruptcy report laws will soon make it much harder to file for Chapter 7, so you may want to cut your losses and find a qualified attorney to help you.
