Pity it's not possible to give negative stars.

There is a reason Aflac has hundreds of complaints online. Please read them before being taken in by their carefully crafted advertising.

My personal experience was with a short term disability policy. We had a great, caring Aflac representative who tried to help but it took the state of Alabama Insurance Commission and several months before we received payment. Even after winning the fight to have the claim approved, Aflac delayed further. They actually said they had mailed a check but it must have gotten lost in the mail! It took over two weeks for them to replace the "lost" check.

We provided all of the information Aflac requested but they repeatedly asked for more documentation. Whenever we called the representative was polite but each call resulted in more delays and multiple reviews by their claims service department.

I believe that Aflac intentionally makes filing a claim difficult and delays payment in hopes that their customers give up. Had I not gone to the state insurance commission I do not believe I would have ever received payment.

In researching Aflac after they first declined payment I found hundreds of complaints and negative reviews. I also found a class action suit against Aflac by their employees for fraud and abuse.

Aflac was also fined $1.6 million by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for misleading investors. Aflac negotiated a $350,000 settlement in this particular fine involving five states. Aflac also operates in Japan.

Aflac is not the cute, friendly, helpful company their advertising presents.

Rather than paying claims Aflac's business model seems to be delay and deceive. It seems premiums paid to them go towards advertising, legal fees and a villa with enclosed walkways on top of their gated compound in Columbus Georgia. Please see photo and map link below.
