Complaint Review:
AFMO.com
AFMO.com Tactical Gear Now, Inc. Incompetent, possibly fraudulant internet sales operation. Internet
April 19, 2012: I ordered a product (approx $240) at AFMO.com (also associated with Texas Army & Navy Stores/Tactical Gear Now, Inc.). No mention was made either on the site or while checking out that the item was "backordered".
My American Express was charged immediately.
April 20: I receive an email saying the item is "backordered" and expected delivery in 3 weeks.
May 10: I inquire as to the status of my order, via email, and receive the following reply:
"Unfortunately, the item you ordered was not properly set up in our system. I am glad you e-mailed us for a status update. I corrected this, and we should be receiving the remainder of your items in the next two weeks.
Thank you for your patience.
I want to apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you."
May 23: I receive the following email:
"We are still in the process of gathering all the items for your [already paid for item].
It will take us another few weeks to get all the necessary items in stock."
It should be noted that I contacted several other suppliers of the items they mentioned were out-of-stock, and not a single other source said they were backordered or difficult to get.
May 26: I requested my American Express be re-credited the $240 until they provide the merchandise. 2 days later I'm told:
"I have sent a request for refund to our accounting department, and will call for payment when it is ready to ship."
Despite the fact that I was charged within seconds of purchasing an item they apparently didn't have, my refund needs to be cleared through accounting. That's nice, huh?
June 6: Still no refund, I inquire again.
June 10: I call them this time and am again told the request has been sent to accounting. I inform them that they have 48 hours to return my funds or I will contest the charge through American Express and file a report with the BBB.
June 13: As I'm nearing the 60-day limit in which charges can be disputed with credit cards, I officially contest the charge with American Express.
June 15: Still no refund or merchandise, AFMO.com has not replied to my final warning email. A report was filed with the BBB.
It should also be noted that there are several similar complaints regarding AFMO.com. I have not heard a thing from the company since June 10th. I believe the company is at the very least incompetent, but now I'm starting to believe they're faudulant.

UPDATE
#2Author of original report
Sun, July 01, 2012
After filing this report, along with complaints with the BBB and American Express, I was contacted via phone by one of the co-owners of the company. He apologized and said I "fell through the cracks" with regard to my situation and that it wasn't their way of doing business. More importantly I finally received a full refund on my AmEx.
At this time I consider the matter closed.
