Afni Collections- Fraudulent billing, harassment, being a general and all around nuisance!! Bloomington Illinois
I recieved a collections notice from this company telling me that i owed them 938 dollars and some change, over a bill with verizon communications. welp i havent ever had ANY service with verizon communications, EVER. so close to the first thing i did (after calling these people to see what all the hubub was about) was look them up on ripoffreport, thanks very much by the by, afterwards i confirmed thru verizon that i in fact owe them nothing... i am more than angry about this crap but now that i know it for what it is my only remaining concern is what to do about it. Not only to resolve this issue, but what to do in the future to [rotect myself against any further intrusions against my happy little life... anyone have any ideas ?

Shane,
Here is what you want to do immediately.
Send a DEBT VALIDATION request. Only supply the info they already have, do not give them anything else. Clearly dispute the debt and DEMAND to see whatever you allegedly signed to create the debt, as well as a full account history and itemization of charges.
Also demand proof that they are legally entitled to collect on the said debt and request licensing info as well.
Send this letter by certified mail, return reciept requested. Be sure to put the certified# on the letter itself, and keep a copy of the finished letter with the certified# for your records. Do not sign the letter. Just print.
Inform them that failure to comply with this request and any other violations of the FDCPA will be met with an immediate lawsuit. Inform them that all incoming calls to your phones are all recorded and being logged by your phone company for police use.
