I happened to view my Fico score today and discovered that there were two open collection accounts on my credit report.  I knew that I had satisfied one of these collections with Verizon Wireless in September and October of 2014.  Verizon informed me that I still had only one collection account open and this was with another collection agency which was not with Afni.  She advised me to pay this, and I said I would be working toward doing just that.

They have been sending me notices since 2008 on a land line phone number that is impossible for me to have.  The first notice I received from them, I wrote to tell them that the phone number listed on the collection notice was not a phone number I had EVER had.  It would be impossible for me to have ever had this number.  The telephone number they said I owed the debt for was not in my area's list of telephone number exchanges.  The first three digits  of each telephone number indicate the area.  The first three numbers in this phone number were for another city approximately 12 miles away.  I lived in an area with totally different exchanges.  I have NEVER lived in the town where the exchange originated, therefore, it could not be mine.  Nor could it have ever been mine.

I spoke with an agent at Afni, who was determined to ignore everything I said to him about the phony phone number.  He was very persistent in his insistance that if I didn't give anyone my personal information for this phone number, someone else in my household must have done it.  It wouldn't matter how many people were in my household, no one would be assigned a number from outside MY EXCHANGE AREA, PERIOD!  He refused to listen and kept insisting that someone had to do it.  I don't usually do this, but I was so frustrated, I hung up on him.

I was so frustrated at this point, I began to look on the internet to see if I could find any further information about Afni, as I wanted to call back to speak to a supervisor.  In doing so, I found a few articles written by consumers regarding similar instances with Afni.  I read them and decided to write to Ripoffs.com myself.

My intention now is to write to them, send a copy of the same letter to my state attorney general's office, as well as Bloomington, Illinois's state attorney general's office.  I read several reports written on Ripoffs.com about Afni and I now feel that I was also one targeted in their scam.

I want this removed from my credit report as their error and not to show up as a paid late, paid late settlement or collection of any kind since it didn't belong on my report in the first place.
