Afni doesn't listen nor care that the bill may be erroneous. Mercenary tactics. Bloomington Illinois

Verizon sapparently sold thousands of old accounts from as far back as 15 years ago to Afni. Verizon kept no records that could be of potential help, and are as culpable as Afni. Afni is a ruthless company employing terror tactics to get paid.

My bill was 12 yrs old and from an address in a state I never lived in. Not my bill, but Verizon who initiated this process maintained no roecords that could help me prove this. Further, I asked Verizon why they didn't address this billing issue 10, 7 or even 3 years after the disconnection. Their answer was-"we don't have that information anymore" you must talk to the 'jihadi's at Afni.

bad information from Tricia the ex AFNI collector

Tricia,

If you are going to give "advice", at least be sure your information is accurate.

>>>
You wrote:
"Verizon deletes your information after 7 years. (which happens to be the amount of time that if you have an old debt you can fight the creditors AND WIN because seven years is the statute of limitations)".
The FACTS: You are confusing the 7 year negative credit reporting rule with the statute of limitations for enforcing collections. Each state has it's own SOL for enforcing collections and FYI no state has a 7 year SOL on this. Not one. Most are from 3-6 years, and some are 10,15 or 20 years.

"We all knew that but we never told the customers that. We weren't aloud".
Correction: "Allowed": is the word you were looking for here.

We would have them pay it. Does Verizon get the money. No. Who gets it??? AFNI of coarse [COURSE is the word you are looking for here], Well that is semi true, Verizon got a little money up front when afni bought the debt, but Afni profits big time".
>>>

Info for KJ,

Verizon DID NOT "initiate the process" as you claim. They simply sold off a portfolio of bad debt. The problem with this is that most of the very old accounts in that portfolio have little or no information on the actual debtor. Therefore, everyone with the same or similar name as the original debtor gets the letter.

AFNI are junk debt buyers. They are punks and lowlife and should be avoided.

FYI..NEVER contact any "original creditor" when you are being contacted by a collection agency. That is a very bad idea. many of those debt portfolios have a buyback clause, and anything you say to them could validate the debt and make it legally collectable by resetting the SOL in your state.

your right.

#7UPDATE EX-employee responds

Hi,
I just wanted to say your right. I worked at afni for over a year in what they call the Verizon Welcome Center... (not very welcoming at all though). We were trained to speak kindly, but they didn't knock us if we didn't. Any way back on subject. Afni bought about 3 million dollars of Verizons debt. Verizon deletes your information after 7 years. (which happens to be the amount of time that if you have an old debt you can fight the creditors AND WIN because seven years is the statute of limitations). We all knew that but we never told the customers that. We weren't aloud. We would have them pay it. Does Verizon get the money. No. Who gets it??? AFNI of coarse, Well that is semi true, Verizon got a little money up front when afni bought the debt, but Afni profits big time.

Now if you have a verizon bill, chances are it was GTE and verizon took on the bill when they switched. Any way, The reason verizon doesn't send you the bill, SIMPLE... THEY DON'T CARE. After dealing with verizon customers for 40 hours a week, I would NEVER get verizon again. Yikes, I know to much. They are the real issue. Unfortunately for AFNI they are going to have a bad rap. They are a collection agency. They can only give as much info as they are given by verizon. They will continue to try to collect, because that is what they do. If your bill is that old though, you can fight it AND WIN!!!
