Recently I received a letter from AFNI, Inc stating I owe then $2907.99. The original creditor was Verizon California Inc. Verizon does not have any record of this account on file.

I spoke to Pam ID 32037 who was very rude, condescending and assumptive. She told me that the debt was acquired by AFNI, Inc back in 2006. She further explained according to Verizon the debt went into collections back in 1996. Meaning this account is 12 years old.

I would like to state that this is not my account. Second for others that are dealing with this situation, I would like to offer assistance on trying to fight these junk debt collectors.

First: Deny Dispute Disavow but do it in writing to AFNI, Inc and to the credit agencies.

Second: Please review this web-site: Fair Credit Reporting.com. It is full of information regarding consumer rights on fighting scrupulous junk debt collectors such as AFNI, Inc and other such companies.
http://www.fair-credit-reporting.com/credit-laws/credit-reporting-periods.html#extend-5

Third: Stay diligent and do not back down. Dispute your credit report. If at first you do not succeed try, try, and try again.

Lastly: Do not pay if the account is not yours this only re-opens the account and allows for this company to re-age the account (to a certain degree). It may not seem like it but the law is on our side.

AFNI, Inc. may attempt to guilt you or bully you into paying on an old account but in the end we as consumers have the power. I did not wish to write a prolonged post about how wrong mean or bothersome this company is, for in the end - it is my hope to transcend this experience and it is my hope to provide others that are experiencing the same ordeal with the tools that I used to overcome this situation.

Please check out the link above for it does have a lot of useful information to empower the consumer to fight dirty companies such as AFNI, Inc. at their own game.

AFNI is running an extortion racket with ancient debt that they purchased. They can't find the original debtor so they post negative info on people with similar names to get them to pay to clear their credit reports...This is enabled by the credit bureaus, which are mainly concerned with their own profits rather than with the accuracy of the info they they report...AFNI is taking full advantage of this....

Note: I don't know why Verizon allowed this to happen...it's tarnishing their reputation.
