Afni , fake collection notice! Bloomington Illinois

First of all this "collection agency" did not even have my correct last name. They sent me a notice that said I owed $2380.22 to a Verizon account for a FL number.
I never had such a high bill and other than that I live in NY!Are these people crazy?

I called the toll free number 2 times and was given ridiculous hold times of 30 min or more.

I am not paying this account of course but would like to know what is the next step I can take against this fraudulent company?

NEVER call, or speak to any debt collector on the phone!! This will NEVER do anything positive for you, and will in most cases make things worse.

If they dont even have your last name right, don't sweat it!

Ignore these punks until they get something they can actually use on paper.

Stay off the phone!!

You might want to search on ripoff using AFNI for specific things you can do (like DON'T TALK TO THEM - PUT EVERYTHING IN WRITING). In a letter Tell them to validate their claim and send it certified return receipt requested. on the letter put the certification number on it.

Steve and a host of others will be responding with their expertise shortly!
