Afni is requesting me to send a copy of my drivers licence, social security number, a copy of the police report indicating identity theft and proof of residence during the time in which these accounts were opened. Knowing how AFNI works from recent investigations,

I have the breakdown for you on that bill:

$28,000 Collection fees and Interest
236 Charged off Cingular Bill
------------------------
$28,236

Tom is correct, NEVER give ANYONE over the phone or that you do not know your DL,DOB,SS#, etc..or any other personal information. Especially never to a debt collector!

NEVER speak to a collector on the phone. Demand everything in writing, and respond only by certified mail, return reciept requested.

Do a DEBT VALIDATION request immediately by the means above where you clearly dispute the debt, and DEMAND to see whatever you allegedly signed to create the account as well as a full itemization/accounting of charges.

It is not your responsibility to prove that you do not owe the debt, it is the collector's responsibility to prove that you do. It is called burden of proof.

AFNI are also junk debt buyers who paid less than a penny on the dollar for this type and age of account.

Also demand proof from them that they actually own it and/or have a right to collect it, and that they are licensed in your state to do debt collections. Hit them from all directions. File the FTC.gov complaint also, and be sure you go to budhibbs.com and file info also. There are many consumer complaint sites out there, and I would use every one of them to expose these scumbags.

Good luck.

Number One: Do not send them any information!!!

2)Take this very seriously.

3)Get copies of all 3 credit reports. Prepare for more bad news. Put a fraud alert on all 3. You're entitled to free reports once a year from (((ROR redacted link))) and any time a big credit problem happens. See FCRA and FACTA for details.

4)Do not talk to ANYONE on the phone about this.

5)Read number 4 again. Write it down and tape it on your phone. Put it on Post-it notes and stick them on your bathroom mirror, your refrigerator, your TV and your computer.

6)Get copies of the FDCPA, the FCRA and FACTA.

7)Go online and order a comprehensive search on yourself. This will pull up records like criminal and others not on a credit report. If an identity thief gets arrested, whose name do you think they will give? Not theirs, that's for sure.

8)Request your Choicepoint and MIB files.

9)You can even request your FBI and police files. There might even be an arrest warrant out for you.

10)Get copies of all info that you can. DMV, IRS, Social Security.etc.

11)There is probably a business with you listed as the owner.

12)You will be very lucky if this is the only problem that you have.

Write a letter to Cingular explaining the problem and ask them to do an investigation. If they say that they think you are responsible, ask them to send you all available information so you can do your own investigation. Only send them your name and address.

This sounds like Cingular really dropped the ball. How the heck do they let a bill run up to $28,236.00? Call centers in Bangalore, India don't run up these kind of bills. This should be easy for them to investigate. They have all of the phone records.

Write a letter to AFNI stating that this is not your account and that you will handle it directly with Cingular. Tell AFNI that you do not want to deal with them in any way. Tell them not to contact or communicate with you again.

This can not be properly handled through a third party. It would be awkward and inefficient.

And P.S: They would also like:
Your DNA, fingerprints, picture, height, weight, shoe size, mother's maiden name, birthday, dental records, supermarket "V.I.P" discount card info., and an iris scan. And,if it's ok with you, they would like to implant you with an rfid chip and put a gps tracking collar around your neck. And then maybe some web enabled video surveillance cameras in your house.

Hey, if you don't have anything to hide, then why would you object?
