Complaint Review: Agile Somalis Cattery

Agile Somalis Cattery SomaliCats@shaw.ca, http://www.AgileSomalis.com,Agile Somalis Cattery Helen Warn of Agile Somalis cattery is quite an exclusive, nasty piece of work - she's in it for the money - she's not in it for the breed or for the well-being of the animals she sells. Avoid her. Vancouver, BC, Canada BC

Helen Warn of Agile Somalis is a cat breeder who is in it for the money and for her ego. I consulted her about buying and adopting a Somali kitten or pair of kittens. Helen couldn't have been sweeter when I was considering buying from her and having kittens shipped from the northwest to the northeast. I gave the matter some thought and realized I wasn't comfortable having kittens shipped cross country. She referred me to an east coast breeder, Karen Vance of cedarwood cattery and nightmagic cattery. Working with Ms. Vance was a little odd, but everything was going fine until I expressed an interest in obtaining breeding rights. From that point forward, Helen Warn and the east-coast breeder she referred me to, Karen Vance, treated me with utter CONTEMPT.

Please be assured that I am not exaggerating when I write the word CONTEMPT.

In particular, Helen Warn did her best to blacklist me. I am grateful to the other breeders I found who know what a shady character Helen Warn is, and who were willing to work with me and mentor me.

Last weekend I attended a cat show in Connecticut, and all of the breeders there expressed their concern about the waning numbers of people interested in becoming breeders. In response, I told everyone at that show about the contemptuous treatment I received from Helen Warn of Agile Somalis Cattery (http://www.AgileSomalis.com) and her east coast flunkie, Karen Vance of cedarwood cattery (http://www.cedarwoodcattery.com/about.html) and nightmagic cattery (http://nightmagiccattery.com/contact.html). The breeders I met at last week's show all agreed that those who bring this kind of attitude, exclusion, and bad politics to the game are ultimately hurting the cats and the breeds, and they all said there is no place in cat fanciers for thugs like Ms. Karen Vance and Ms. Helen Warn.

Somalis and Abyssinians are wonderful cats, but people like Helen Warn and Karen Vance are doing a great job of making these breeds extinct. If you are interested in having one of these as your pet, please be ready to choose your breeder carefully. A breeder should promote his/her breed in an inclusive way, and they should appreciate those who take interest in the breed. They should not come off as exclusive or make you feel uncomfortable for being interested in a breed. If you are interested in becoming a breeder of somali and abyssinian cats, you should not be treated with the contempt that Helen Warn and Karen Vance showed me. There are many abyssinian and somali breeders out there who will treat you with professionalism and respect. Please do not subject yourself to the contempt that Helen Warn and Karen Vance showed me. They are doing harm to these two wonderful breeds of cats.

Not the Helen Warn I have dealt with

I was shocked by the rip off report that I read as this is not the Helen Warn of Agile Somalis that I know through the Abyssinian/Somali world.  Nor is it the Helen Warn who advocates and works so hard to help organizations such as VOKRA (Vancouver Orphaned Kittens Rescue Organization) by getting the word out and aiding with their fundraising.

Helen is extremely outspoken in her views, but has the health and well-being of her kittens as her primary concern.  She will not sell a kitten to just anybody - for any amount of money.  I think that the author of the report is spouting sour grapes because he could not get a kitten from Helen.

Helen is regarded quite highly in the Abyssinian and Somali circle and that regard would not be there if the original report were even remotely true.  I have just recommended her to someone as an alternative to purchasing an Abyssinian as there are few breeders on the west coast with her pedigree of cats - good lines that are bred for personality and health foremost, but still manage to win at show.

No breeder in their right mind would sell a breeding cat to someone without being sure of their qualifications and background.  Because there are so many unscrupulous people out there, kittens are no longer shipped 'whole' - and for good reason.  The biggest problem in the Abyssinian and Somali world these days is too many breeders breeding for all the wrong reasons!  It is heartbreaking to see that the average lifespan of an Abyssinian or Somali in many areas of the United States is a distressing 4.5 years!  They should be living 14 years or longer.

Kudos to Helen and Karen Vance for protecting their lines - and above all, for protecting their kittens from the likes of the original report writer.  The report writer does not seem to understand that you earn respect.  Helen Warn has earned my respect many times over.

Actually, Helen was gung-h*o to ship me a pair of kittens

It is true that Helen Warn is on the West Coast and I am on the East Coast, and in fact, Helen Warn was gung-h*o to sell me a pair of kittens and charge me for shipping across the country, and from 2008-2012 she was rather persistent about emailing me every time she had a litter of kittens. I'll be happy to copy and paste some of Helen's emailed litter announcements if these rebuttals from her and her friends continue to appear here on ripoff report.

I was the one who decided not to get kittens from Helen because I did not want to put the kittens through the trauma of being shipped. At that point I did ask Helen for a referral to an East Coast breeder, which Helen provided. After I purchased one kitten from the breeder Helen referred me to, Helen interfered and blocked the purchase of a second kitten. This was after years of Helen pursuing me to purchase a pair of kittens from her.

I emailed Helen numerous times after she blacklisted me for the purchase of a second kitten to find out why she had done so, therefore she had numerous opportunities to address the situation directly and privately with me. Helen consistently ignored my emails for several months. Now that she has been reported on ripoffreport.com, she is acting the way common bullies always act when they are called out for their bullying - she is acting like she's the victim in this.

If these rebuttals from Helen and her friends continue, I will not hesitate to copy a few of the emails from Helen to me trying to get me to buy kittens from her.

Helen - you've been called out for your unkind, unprofessional, exclusive, and stingy behavior. Deal with it, stop being defensive about what you did in the past, and try to do better in the future. That's the only way you'll salvage your reputation.

My reports on Helen Warn and Karen Vance are true, please get in touch for details

I just read the rebuttal to my report about the obnoxious way I was treated by Somali Breeders Helen Warn and Karen Vance.

The rebuttal posted on this site gives no details or basis for refuting my report - it simply accuses me of libel based on an assertion that Helen Warn is a nice person who would never do such a thing.

Please be assured that everything I posted about these two treacherous breeders - Helen Warn and her east coast flunkie Karen Vance - is true. They are back-yard breeders who are in it for money and ego. They are not in it to educate or promote awareness of the wonderful somali breed, and they expressly refuse to welcome those interested in the somali breed. I am happy to provide my email address, and you are welcome to contact me for details on how these two selfish, exclusive ladies treated me - please feel free to contact me at brinkbrink182 at gmail dot com. If you are interested in the somali breed, I will be happy to give you referrals to breeders who will mentor you and appreciate your interest.

It is worth noting that when I first got in contact with Helen Warn and Karen Vance, they operated from addresses in the United States. Now they have no street address in the United States - they only have addresses in Canada. The reason these ladies have crossed the border into Canada is because there are a number of people trying to take them to court in the US.

If you've read this far, please be assured that there are reputable breeders in the US who will appreciate your interest. Somalis are wonderful cats, and if you are interested in having one as a pet, you should not be shunned. though there may be a waiting list, you can get a wonderful cat from a reputable breeder. Don't put up with the shadiness I endured from Ms. Warn and Ms. Vance.

Agile Somalis - Helen Warn

I have known Helen Warn, breeder of Agile Somalis for many years.  She is a quality breeder with health as the primary concern.  I have seen several of her cats in person.  They are nice.  Helen is a nice person, polite and reserved, but not afraid to voice her opinions.

The report I read about her and her cattery is not true.  This person that wrote it is quite ignorant of the facts.

I feel he is biased because she would not sell him a cat.  It is to bad that people can post unverified statements without any facts or proof.  That is libelous activitity and shouldn't be permitted.

I am a 3rd party, I know Helen, I do not know this person that wrote it, however it seems he lives thousands of miles away from her.  I wrote this because I dislike people to bad mouth or write fictional reports on other people hurting them, and no possibility of their story being verified before being published.  Certainly unfair reporting.
