Total bill for 5 minutes of labor only (no parts) was $129.99

What a prime example of excessive overcharging!

Failure to fullfill disclosure requirements

The State of California disclosure laws mandate that every customer be given a written estimate of both the labor and materials necessary for a specific job in advance of any repairs being performed.  This company states they do not have an hourly labor rate, only a per job rate.  No estimate was given prior to any service being performed, and  I don't pass out blank checks to anyone!

All of you so called professionals should be aware that the State of California requires a written estimate, which was not given in this case.  Had an estimate been provided, I would have no problem in telling this company to pound sand!

If I was a licensed repair professional myself, I wouldn't have called this company in the first place.

As stated, if you want to be ripped off, call this company.  They will be happy to take your money, even if they don't earn it!

If you know of anyone else earning $2000 per hour, I would be happy to work for them myself!

Doesn't matter how long it takes

You paid for the job to be done. It doesn't matter if it takes 5 minutes or 2 hours, you hired them to tighten the handle on your oven (why you can't do it yourself I have no idea) which they did. They didn't bait and switch, lie about the charges or even rip you off. They delivered a service efficiently, promptly and you're the one complaining about it. This isn't priceline.com and you don't get to set your own price. The charge seems fair to me.

RIP OFF?

I work in a related feild where we do field calls to peoples locations for minor or major repairs. Minimum call out for our business is $150.00 for a "Licenced" tech. $100.00 for a "handy man". Additional charge of $1.00 per kilometer over 20 KM each way from our shop. Sounds like you got a reasonable deal and just don't get how this kind of business works. Nice guys though giving a discount because you were unhappy, I would not have.

Update!

Company has since lowered their bill to $100.00 for 5 minutes of labor only (no parts)

That is equal to $2000.00 per hour labor charge. (you do the math)

The State of California should revoke this companys license and prosecute for grand theft!!!
