Albert Moving did not do a an inventory of our items to be moved before coming to our house; however the owner Albert had assured me in our telephone conversation that he had lots of experience and that he knew what he was doing and he assured me that his truck would be big enough to handle our job.
Then on the moving day, he sent small inexperienced movers, one of them was injured and wouldn't have been able to help. they arrived with a small truck and Albert had said that they wouldn't and it would have taken at least 5 full truckloads to move us and it would have cost an awful lot more than the original estimate.
We sent the movers away and we had to move ourselves. Basically Albert's cost estimate and promises were not accurate at all. he said that it would cost approximately $1,500 and in the end it would have cost us at least $4,000 to $5,000 with at least 5 trips plus transportation costs (1 hour drive between the 2 houses).
Albert moving should have done a full inventory. they should have also had a truck that could handle our move in one trip (not 5 trips, as we eventually had to do ourselves) and they should have had inexperienced movers. we suggest that other homeowners should not deal with any mover without an inventory and they should first receive an assurance of truck size and experienced movers in writing.
We somewhat trusted Albert Moving because they were listed in our phone book as a local moving company. In the end, the movers told us that they had never seen or spoken to Albert, the owner and that he was actually living in California in the USA, not near Toronto. we also found out from the movers that there had been quite a few other people in the Toronto area who had similar problems with this company and the poor young movers were always left to explain the situation to their customers. Albert called me during this mess on moving day and he suggested that I just give the movers $100 for coming to my house and just send them back. Of course, I refused to pay them and the movers fully understood and even said that they would be happy to testify on our behalf should Albert try to get money from us in the courts.
