Alertpay Allowed a verified merchant to take my money and provided absolutely no help Montreal Quebec
Paid a verified merchant $550 through Alertpay's payment service. The merchant turned out to be fraudulent. The company could provide no way of returning any of my money because even though the merchant was verified and could receive an unlimited amount of money, his verified details were incorrect due to the company's poor verification procedures.
Alertpay promised to provide me more information on the merchant in order for me to pursue the matter but never did and eventually stopped responding to me. They have not even reimbursed my transaction fee and simply left the matter unresolved.

general misunderstanding how AlertPay works

If you use AlertPay (with or w/o using VISA card) as customer, you need to understand that it is complete different to such like PayPal or 2CO.
AlertPay payments are not refundable! It works like Moneybookes.com
It is designed t give the merchant the necessary security to deliver prompt also irrecoverable items or services. PayPal, 2CO, other CC payments can't give that, as fraudulent buyers can request a recharge after, and the merchant takes the loss even if he did deliver serious.
Because that, in case you are unhappy with the merchant, you need to deal this direct with him, not with AlertPay.
See it as cash payment, that also has no recharge.
The general problem with CCs is, that customers think they can request a recharge easy and it's merchant's sole risk. But serous merchants want to get serous money, and so they need to have a system that is like cash, and that is AlertPay.

AlertPay is not a bank

AlertPay and PayPal are Internet versions of wiring money via WesternUnion, which itself is only marginally better than sending cash in the mail.
Frankly, I feel safer giving out my VISA number to a merchant over the phone than I am with the online middle-man services. At least then if the merchant proves to be troublesome, VISA has to follow rules and regs under the Bank Act.

Obviously I have contacted their customer support. Numerous times. I've sent at least 10 emails all of which went unanswered. I called everyday for at least 5 days in a row and all they kept saying is they would get back to me and never did. Any real payment processor provides some kind of protection policy, especially due to potential problems they can encounter with credit card companies. They emphasize that 'My money is safe with Alertpay', that's how I get off assuming that I am protected, because THEY SAID IT. And excuse me if I think it's a bad company because their customer support doesn't help! Obviously you're not going to find any complaints because they're so unpopular. No one uses them in the first place because it's probably the only payment processor that doens't even support credit cards.

Still don't think it is company's fault.

I have alot of experience with payment processors. Have been using Paypal since 2000.
Besides this, why dont you pursue this with their customer support? They are exceptionally strong in taking care of problems. I am monitoring many forums and sites and you seem to be the only person who has had any problem with Alertpay.
Also Paypal provides this buyer protection policy. It is clearly on their site. Alertpay does not have this policy mentionned anywhere. So where do you get off in assuming that you are automatically protected?
Ross, where are you located? Miami or Barbados.
I can tell you that AlertPay is a fine company. I have visited their offices and met with some of their folks. For you to automatically think that they are a bad company for your one transaction is like telling everyone to never shop at Walmart because you feel you got bad service there.
Look I want to help you. Why dont you do this? Call there at their support number (which is clearly listed on their site) at 514-748-5774 and ask for Zack. He is my guy there. He will definately help you out. Even tell him that I recommeded that you call him. He will not turn you down.

Why it's the company's fault

Do you have any experience with payment processors? This person was a Verified Merchant! Meaning there should be buyer protection guarantees and Alertpay should AT LEAST have correct details. Paypal provides buyer protection services, not to mention other third party payment processors out there I've used where the merchant didn't provide me with the correct product or no product at all refunded me in FULL. So this IS Alertpay's fault and the worst part is they won't even respond. It should not be my fault their verification procedures are so poor. I am now filing this report because I have now discovered ripoffreport.com. Maybe you should also do your research before so eloquently defending such a useless company. Come on, what payment processor doesn't support credit cards!

Not company's fault

I dont think it is the company's fault. This is just like Paypal. If you sent money to a 3rd party, then you have to take it up with the 3rd party to pay it back to you. Why are you holding the middle man responsible? It is like blaming your bank because you successfully sent a check for payment of goods that then did not get delivered. Is your bank going to reverse the money just because you got ripped off? And this cannot be true since AlertPay has not been accepting credit cards since February 2006. If this is true, then it was done before February and you took a long time in reporting this.
My suggestion, go after the guy you sent the money to. Obviously you must have known the vendor or merchant before you sent the money. If you are expecting the middle man to do all your work for you, then I think you did not do your homework. Again it is like holding your bank responsible for your shopping needs.
I say all this because I enjoy using the services of AlertPay and Paypal, and people like this think that everything is supposed to be handed to them on a silver platter. Do your own research before making a payment.
