Complaint Review: ALEX & BRENT OVERSTOCK DEALS

ALEX & BRENT OVERSTOCK DEALS Andrea Minix, Brent Minix. Puchased a trampoline listed as "new in box" on Craigslist. Got home and realized it was missing half the parts. They never gave me the missing parts, so I am out $200. It's been over a month now with Douglas, Georgia

I responded to an ad on Craigslist.org in Valdosta, GA for a "brand new in box" trampoline for $200 that I wanted to purchase for my toddler aged son's birthday. I was emailed back right away on 9/18/2010, and the woman stated that she would put it aside for me, as I was about to have surgery on the 21st, and that my husband could meet her in Lakeland, GA, as she lives in Douglas, GA.

The woman claimed her name was "Andrea" and that she and her husband run an overstock store, and sell on Craigslist. So we purchased the trampoline on the 21st, and when we got around to opening the box a few days later, we realized that it was missing the mat that you jump on, and the safety netting, (all listed on their ad as included) so the trampoline was totally unusable. We contacted this woman right away, and she stated that she had "no idea" that the parts were left out of the box, but that she would call her husband right away and get back to me ASAP.

Then she continued to make up excuses why she could not meet us to give us the missing parts, such as stating she was out of town, then she continued to state she was out of town for weeks. She also stated that she could not return our calls because she was in the mountains and did not have cell phone service. She claimed to have emailed us "3 times" during this initial period, but we never got any messages. She then stated that she would have her 19 year old son meet us if we could not wait for her to get back into town, and we replied that we would love to get the parts ASAP. We emailed her all of our phone numbers again, and waited to hear from him.

She then emailed us that she had passed on our contact info to her son. Then she stated that her son had car trouble, and would try to meet us, but that he was relying on his girlfriend to transport him to and from work. Then she claimed she would finally be back in town on Sunday Oct. 17th, and we could meet her then. Well, we have emailed and called her many times since then, and no answer on any phone numbers provided or emails. It's been well over a month now since we purchased this trampoline, which is only the metal shell and the springs, and we are out $200 that could have been used to get my son another trampoline. She has ignored us for weeks, and always had an excuse. She won't return our money, and she won't give us the parts that are "in her shop".

I did some research and found that this woman owns a store in Douglas, GA called Baby Bella Miya, and it is registered to the cell phone number that she gave us, and that she has contacted us on before. When we confronted her about this store, she was very rude and claimed to know nothing about this store, and did not know what I was talking about. But clearly her phone numbe is listed as the number for the store "Baby Bella Miya" in Douglas, GA. She has given us a couple of different names, but by looking her up using her cell number and home number, I know her husband's name is Brent Minix. She says her name is Andrea, but on her email signature it says "Alex & Brent Overstock Deals". So I am still not certain what her name is.

We know the make and model of their vehicle, their home address, and their last name now by looking them up online. They use the email address: littlepeoplesshoppe@live.com, and their store in Douglas, GA uses the email address babybellastore@live.com. They seemed to be very nice and always responded to our emails and calls prior to us purchasing the item, but once we started asking for the missing parts, they stopped communicating and when they did, it was always an excuse why they could not meet us to give us the parts.

I reported them to the FTC military branch, and have the original craigslist posting ID and have reported them there as well. I just want to ensure that they don't continue to scam other families. They won't return the missing parts, they won't respond to emails, they say they were out of town prior to October 1st, and said they would be back this week, over and over. I hoped to get our money back, so that we could purchase another trampoline for our son, but after over a month with still nothing from them, we went out and got another one for him yesterday. I won't give up on this however, and will be involving law enforcement, as I don't appreciate someone out there scamming military families, and other families.

They had 2 listings on craigslist for the same exact trampoline, both posted in mid September 2010. They told me they had one left when I contacted them. I did some research on this trampoline in stores if you buy it new, and found out that the parts come in two boxes. I bet they sold one box to one person online, and the other box to us. I hope that the other people who got scammed will also report them. I hope that they will stop stealing from people, and my husband has been in the Air Force for 15 years now, and we just cannot let this go, and just let them take our money and never honor their many promises to delivery our missing parts.

We hope to see law enforcement get involved and at least get our money back. I just want to warn others in all ways possible, so that you do not fall victim to their online ads and scams. They appear to be very nice people, but have not attempted to return our money or our parts. I am hoping that craigslist customer fraud dept can help to prevent them from ever posting their ads online again. They live and work in Douglas, GA, but they post ads for other towns as well in surrounding areas. Be careful. They sure had us fooled.

I completely agree with the trampoline people and feel terrible for them. I have done business with Brent, Alex and Andrea Cordi/Evans. She did not deliver my LEGO orders I paid for. She would deliver a couple and then as stated by the other report she would tell me story after story.

She was in the hospital, she was visiting relatives, she was picking up pallets, she had kidney failure, someone tried to burn down there house (I looked in the local paper for this story and found nothing). The stories just kept coming and I believed them patiently waiting for my LEGO's.

When I finally decided (after 3 months of waiting for the rest of the order) I'd had it and got short with her she started getting very nasty and sending my messages in all caps! Bet that sounds familiar. Andrea will try to make it sound like you did something wrong when in reality she is ripping you off. People are also complaining about her in the Douglas New a local paper were she lives in southern Georgia.

Also there were several times my husband and I offered to drive down to pick up our LEGO's and she said that it would cost us to much money in gas!!! She couldn't meet us because she would be found out.

I agree with the trampoline family ~ stay away from anyone by these names and beware of online stores you are not familiar with.  Do some simple homework on it first!

This person NEVER delivered my trampoline parts. I did as she told me to do, and added a rebuttal that she was NOT a scammer, and she still scammed me.

Okay, so I filed an initial ripoff report here for an online seller who I purchased a trampoline from back in Sept 2010. The seller got very upset when she found out I filed this report, and threatened me with legal action. I told her that she never gave me my items, so I had to file the report. She gave me all these excuses that sounded legit and I felt bad and thought that maybe she really would in fact give me the missing parts to the trampoline that was SUPPOSED to be for my son's 4th bday, but that has come and gone as it is now 7 months since I gave her the $200 for the "brand new trampoline in box with LED lights, mat, springs, spring covers, safety netting, etc".

So I did as she asked, and filed a rebuttal as I wanted to believe her. Well that was a BIG mistake. Now I cannot get her to respond to emails, she has moved, etc. So we still have a box from her filled with trampoline springs, the cover for the springs, and the poles for the trampoline. There is no mat to jump on, there is no safety netting. She would email me from time to time to keep me feeling sorry for her. She would email to say there was a death in her family so that is why I didn't have the parts yet. Then she came up with a crazy story about how her teenage son delivered the parts to my house, but there were no parts at my house. She said he dropped it off and he was sure it was the right house. I asked her to ask her son what street he dropped it off on, what the house looks like, what kind of cars were in the driveway, etc. No answer. Then she apologized and later emailed me saying that she had been driving around all day trying to recover the parts that they dropped off at the wrong house!! She never said she found them, but then later acted as if she had the parts and told me she would ship them via UPS. I have emails from her stating that she had these parts packed up, and she verified my address multiple times, and then got an email from her stating that UPS was picking up the package that day. Well, I emailed her to ask for a tracking number, and then emailed her again, and again, and again, over the next few weeks, and have NEVER heard from her again. She fell off the face of the earth.

She gave me SO many excuses and I wanted to believe her, as she was saying her family members died and so on. She kept emailing me for awhile, so I thought that she was not going to scam me. But I did find it odd that they never found the "parts" that were dropped off at the "wrong house" but then she all of a sudden had all the parts ready for UPS to send to me. I don't know if the whole thing was said to buy time while she moved and changed her numbers, but she kept in touch with me and continued to act like she could not remember my address, which I put at the bottom of EVERY single email, and I kept telling her if she is having such a hard time finding my house, to just meet me near by or ship it to me OR give me my money back. She never said she would return my money. We bought another trampoline (used one), but I STILL want my money back. That is a lot of money, and the economy is bad right now. She said she was moving and needed to get me the parts before she moved. I think she was just stalling, as I have been emailing her every few weeks since then with nothing. Nothing at all. She gave me her new email addresses, she said she "lost" all of my info when transferring her old email address to her new one. That was yet another excuse. I only posted the rebuttal b/c she told me to, and she threatened me with legal action. Now, I wish I would not have believed her. She has probably scammed far more people now. I hope not.

Her old business email address was littlepeoplesshoppe@live.com. Her new email address is supposedly: overstockdeals@hotmail.com. I have emailed both with no results. No response whatsoever. Her cell number shows up as the number for the owner of a local business in her town, Baby Bella Miya. I asked her about this tons of times and she says that she doesn't know what I am talking about and she doesn't work or own this business. But if you google it, it's listed as her number. It's in the town she live(d) in, and I just don't see how that would be possible if it wasn't true. What I also find strange is that the email address for the Baby Bella store near her home was listed in the same format as the littlepeoplesshoppe one, and I emailed it several times explaining that I was trying to locate these people and never got a response, so I think that if it was not their business, someone who worked there would have responded and said I am sorry, but I think you have the wrong email. The email for that store was listed as babybellamiya@live.com.

I just checked online and some of the listings for the Baby Bella store are still showing the address and phone numbers that match hers, but others are saying the store is now gone. Shut down! So they must have moved and set up shop in another town. They must have scammed an awful lot of people to shut down and move.  I am so upset that she would scam a military family with a young child. I don't want her to scam any others. She posts on Craigslist, but might post on other sites as well. I am still showing her husband as living in their same local area, showing 2 addresses, both wtih the same phone number, so maybe one is their "business". But she is seriously upsetting me because she won't respond to me, she claims she shipped it months ago, but no tracking and no package has ever been delivered. I emailed her a few more times to let her know I would be reporting her if she refuses to respond, and she didn't respond.

So I hope that others will steer clear of her and her husband or whoever he is when on Craigslist. They used to go by "Alex & Brent's Overstock Deals". Now I am not sure what they are going by. But they are very nice at first and will answer you calls and offer to meet you to give you the stuff, then they will stop answering their phones and start emailing you with excuses. So we are out $200 plus all the time and effort we have put into researching these people, and I still don't see my parts. If you check the dates of my initial report, I purchased this item in Sept 2010. It's now late April 2011. Don't think I will be getting my money back or my parts. Geez. If this scammer can sleep at night knowing she has stolen from a military family who is serving our country??? They must be horrible people. I don't expect to ever hear from her ever again, but I hope they get shut down and no one else has to deal with what we have. Countless emails and hours on the computer trying to find out info, give her directions dozens of times and she seems to "forget" or lose the emails. She is always "out of town" or her "phone doesn't have service" is "being repaired" she "changed emails and lost all of our info" etc etc etc. I would LOVE to file some sort of law suit against her, but it's only $200 and my lawyer charges more than that per hour. LOL. Please be aware of these people who prey on small town families, in the Moody AFB area (GA) and DON'T DELIVER. Period.

Issue has been resolved. This person is NOT a scammer. Please see amendment to my original complaint below.

Okay, so the owner of this company has contacted me and has stated that she will deliver the missing trampoline parts or give my money back right away. She has stated that she had been emailing us, but we did not get her emails. She stated that she was calling us, but we did not get any calls. So it seems that she was trying to get a hold of us, but there was some sort of mix up, as we never got any messages and she was not getting our messages either. She was nice enough to forward all of her emails that I did not get and I can see that she was sending me messages, but I was not getting them for whatever reason. She even ordered an extra part for me, and an extra treat for my son, which she had stated to me in one of the emails that I did not get, but she forwarded to me.

So I want to publicly apologize to her and her company, as she has contacted me now, and we have worked everything out, and apparently there has been an awful lot of misunderstanding here, and she explained everything, and we are happy with the way that it has turned out. So, her and her company are not scammers, they were just out of town for several weeks, and we were not able to reach them, and they have not been able to reach us either. We were not getting their emails, but she stated she emailed us many times, so obviously there was a break down in communication, and we were upset, and she was upset as well, as neither of us could get in touch with the other for whatever reason. So I am publicly apologizing to Andrea and Brent, with Alex & Brent Overstock Deals. We were both very frustrated with one another because the other was not responding, but it turns out the emails were not going through and the calls were not either.

And her phone number is listed as the owner of the store Baby Bell Miya, but she has stated that it is a mixup because she does own that store. I am not sure why it is listed, but I have cleared this up with her as well. It was all a misunderstanding, and I was upset, and have been scammed many times before, so I assumed she was scamming us. But she has taken the time to email us all of the missing messages, and explained everything, and it all makes much more sense now. So I know that I cannot remove this post on RipOffReport that I posted about her, but wanted to post an amendment to my original post that shows that everything has been settled and taken care of. She is a very nice woman, and runs a family business, and I was upset and thought I was scammed, but it was just all a big miscommunication. I don't want others to not use her store because of this experience, as she has come through for us and has explained everything. I hope that this post can be seen so that her business is not hurt by this original post, and that she can rest assured that I am now a very satisfied customer and that I understand all that was going on now that we have finally been able to communicate with eachother. Thank you.
