Before signing upl, I got a brochure stating what they do not cover, and ophthalmology was not listed. Paid all premiums on time. Three months later I needed to see an ophthalmologist. Aliera said I first needed a referral from my PCP, but they still helped me find in-network ophthalmologists. My PCP diagnosed me with Graves disease and referred me to an endocrinologist and an ophthalmologist, but Aliera now tells me that ophthalmology is not a specialty that’s covered. I need orbital decompression eye surgery, and Aliera won’t pay. There is nothing Christian about this company; they are scam artists who belong in jail.

My husband signed us up for Aliera Healthcare after looking for a cheaper alternative to traditional insurance, and it's been nothing but trouble. The sales rep we spoke with first questioned us our medical history. My husband told him that our kids see a particular neurologist for ADHD, and he told us that the neurologist was in network. What he failed to tell us was that Aliera does not cover ADHD! So now, every neurology visit costs us $400 x 2 kids x 3 visits per year = $2400 out-of-pocket.

Worse yet, about seven months after signing up with Aliera, I was diagnosed with Grave's disease with Grave's Opthalmopathy. At first, Aliera helped me find an in-network Opthalmologist, but after the visit, Aliera told me that visits would not go toward my deductible because my plan didn't cover Ophthalmology! That's odd, because there is no such restriction in my policy booklet.

After I complained to the BBB, Aliera stated (in writing) that they would cover the Orbital Decompression Surgery that I need, but I just learned that they will only cover 60% of it instead of the 100% (after MSRA) specialty care coverage stated in my contract. How they come up with 60%, I don't know. Yes, Aliera lied (by omission) to the BBB, but since Aliera is not insurance, I cannot report them to the state insurance board. All I can do is sue them for breach of contract, but since I live in New York, filing a suit would probably cost as much as the operation. Going back to using REAL insurance ASAP!
