All American Air & Electric 7 year old AC Unit was "pronounced dead" new unit sold for more than double of market value Fort Myers Florida
Our 7 year old A/C did not work. We asked neighbors and they recommended All American Air in Ft. Myers. All American pronounced our system dead. Sold us a "Goodman 13 seer 5 ton" unit for $9,200. The air handler did not fit - and we became suspicious and checked out the website, license number and BBB score.
Website "comfortguys.com" ceased to exist almost a year ago, license number is a guy in Ocala, and their BBB score is "F".
They found an airhandler that did fit (York). We in the meantime put a stop payment on the credit card number we gave in good faith. In the days that followed people showed up at our home, without appointments just barging in, we were threatened with damage, and that the "police would haul us away in handcuffs" because we stopped payment.
The market value of the system is between 3,400 and 4,500 dollars, according to estimates we got and even an advertisement in the Yellow Pages by Bay-Electric offers the same system for $3.495.The warranties promised to us were very different than the manufacturers warranties. After 2 weeks of harrassment they did provide some warranty paperwork.
A call to the "license holder" in Ocala was answered with "I get paid monthly for the use of my license and that is not illegal". We did pay a bank check in the amount of $5,000 to pay for an A/C system that we are not even sure we needed. None of our neighbors had to replace their sytems which were put in at the same time in 2001. Inspite of having paid far more than the fair market value payment, we were informed that the remaining $4,200 dollars would "go into collection" and a lien would be put on our home.
This is very unsettling: My husband and I have a Trans Union Credit Score of A 990. I can provide copies of it. This score comes from living a financially responsible life over a long period of time. My husband and I are retired and live here in Estero full time for the past 3 years.
It is our opinion that we became victims of the "fleecing of the elderly". We did trust our neighbors recommendations - little did we know, that the company had changed ownership and is not so reputable any more. Why else would they have an "F" rating with the Better Business Bureau.
