AJATT Silverspoon/Neutrino Scam by Khatzumoto (real name Katyana Rogo-Manduli) of AllJapaneseAlltheTime.com (also AJATT.com)...

In May 2012 I joined AJATT Silverspoon (now called Neutrino) and over the course of four months, paid a total of $2693.24 USD via PayPal. The program came with a "Fo Shizzle" Guarantee, stating that once the program was complete after 595 days if I wasn't fluent in Japanese, I was welcome to a refund.

Now, I realised when I joined that regardless of what I thought of the program that my money was staying put until 595 days after the starting date, which for me was January 4, 2014. I gave the program a lot of time, but with a month to go I realised I was so far from fluency that I requested a refund.

After almost two weeks passed and a few more emails were sent his way, I received an autoresponder email from his "assistant" Naomi Suzuki, which contained the following text:

"If you have been allowed to join the SilverSpoon/Neutrino program, you are entitled to a full refund as part of the "Fo-Shizzle Fluency Guarantee". Due to the exclusive, limited and long-term nature of the SilverSpoon/Neutrino program, please be aware that refunds are only processed *after* the specified number of days (usually 595) has elapsed, that is, after completion of the program's set timeframe, regardless of cancellation date."

All of this is consistent with the original guarantee, so I assumed that they were simply lazy about customer service.

Another two weeks went by and I finally received some help from "Naomi Suzuki":

Thank you for accurate information.

You are right, according to the refund policy, your refund processing will begin from Jan. 2014.

For confirmation, the amount of your refund is $2,693.24 USD in total.

Before you go, and if you get a sec, let me ask you these three magic questions so that Khatz and the gang can make things better for you:

1) What did you love about it?
2) What did you hate about it?
3) What do you wish it had that it doesn't yet?

We are looking forward to your reply.

At this point I assumed that everything was going to be processed as they promised and I waited until January 4 to come around. When it did come and go and my refund was still nowhere to be seen, I didn't worry, after all, it fell on a weekend.

But January 5 came around and with it came my "refund".

Here's what my "refund" email from PayPal contained:

Just thought you'd like to know All Japanese All The Time sent you $100.00 USD.

Note from All Japanese All The Time:

Thank you so much for trying her out. Here is a part of your refund. Each part shall be a minimum of $100 (excluding fractions). Your next part is scheduled for February 5. Please contact me if you see any delay. -- Naomi Suzuki/AJATT

I wasn't sure if I could believe what I was seeing. Since when are refunds doled out in $100 chunks? And $2693.24 sent at $100 a month is more than two years, this is an absolute disgrace!

After several emails, I finally got a response from "Naomi Suzuki":

I apologize for not answering your question sooner.

SilverSpoon refunds are transmitted to you every 30 days in $100+ increments on the 5th of the month until the full amount is returned. In order to make sure you don't lose out, we also cover any necessary PayPal transaction fees on our end.
Please feel free to let me know if there's anything else I can help you with.
 Sincerely,
 Naomi Suzuki AJATT

So I'm not getting the full refund I was promised above, but hey, at least they're kind enough to take care of the PayPal transaction fees! I've since sent several more emails to AJATT and I haven't received a single response.

It's been more than two weeks since my refund was due and they're no longing responding to me so I figured it was time to let anyone who is considering joining AJATT Silverspoon/Neutrino know how their "refund" process really works.

I was in the Silverspoon program for a few months.  When I found myself up at 2 or 3 am and nowhere near finished the days tasks I asked for a refund. I received one fully and within a short period of time.  I wished I would have stuck with the program as I'd be fluent by now. I'm now back in the program as a patron of Khatz on Patreon.com.  Looking forward to great progress in the Japanese language in the next few years.
