When visiting an Allegro Resort in Puerto Plata my wife and I were not pleased with the room we were given. It was supposed to be a "superior" room but was anything but. We complained to the front desk but nothing was done. A couple of days later we were approached by a Resort Representative who told us he could get us into a "VIP Room". He put us in a taxi and sent us to another Allegro Resort next door to our resort where we were led to a "sales room".

To make a long story short we were asked how much we had spent through our travel agent for our all inclusive package. When we told them $1400 CDN per person their rep told us we had paid twice too much and had we been members of the Allegro Vacation Club we would have had much better accomodations at half the cost. We asked if their package included airfare and they said of course, through their partner RCI. We were also told that we could use this for personal travel or for family or even friends to use. We unfortunately believed what we were told and signed up for their club at a cost of $10,000.00 USD plus $180 USD yearly membership fee.

When we returned to Canada we tried to book a trip for our daughter and her friend. We were then told that Allegro's all inclusive package does NOT include air travel, that we have to get to their resorts at our own expense in order to take advantage of their Vacation Club. Therefore this means that we will now be paying 50% more not 50% less to travel!

We lodged a complaint through the Better Business Bureau but Allegro are standing behind the fine print in their contract which we signed which says that they are not responsible for airline "paperwork". At the time of contract signing they told us that their partner, RCI, was responsible for this but now RCI are telling us that they are not and we must have "mis-understood". BEWARE if you are going to be a guest at an Allegro or Occidental Resort. Apparently they are tricking hundreds of people into joining their "club".

It is always best to hire someone skilled to do so, unfortunately in most cases these companies dedicated to cancel timeshares usually cheat for the second time to their customers since they are vulnerable and desperate. If you are thinking of hiring them you just have to make sure you do not have to make any payment upfront ... I found these articles that speak precisely about this, you should read them, that might help you to resolve many doubts:

We attended a so-called no obligation breakfast to see Xcaret resort. We were offered free ATV rides which we declined so that we would feel obligated in any way. We soon heard the sales pitch which starts at 60000 dollars. then they eventually drop down to what can you afford as you repeatedly say no. Then they offer lesser memberships supposedly but then add free trips and stays. etc.. These stays are actually what they use to say that you can not cancel your contract because you used or started your contract using the benefits of your contract already. However, check out Mexican Law. you have 5 working days to cancel. We are now dealing with the "Mexican Federal Consumer Protection Agency" and they are there to protect individuals. Please, i know it is embarrassing to admit, but if you have been screwed over by these people, and an Occidental Allegro timeshare, you have at least a year to report them and possibly get out of the contract. At Least, make your voice heard and the more people who send reports the more pressure it puts on them to clean up these kinds of activities.
