Allianz Global Assitance Refused to pay claim for cancelled trip due to a medical emergency Richmond, Virginia
My brother-in-law had hip replacement surgery for a degenerating hip. Over a month later, he was doing well with no pain so we scheduled a flight for him with travel insurance from Allianz Global Assistance.
Two days later, he noticed that the incision was starting to swell. The doctor told him to go to the ER immediately and he was admitted and had two emergency surgeries to remove the infection. Because of this infection, he was unable to travel.
Allianz Global Assistance claimed that the underlying condition of a bad hip was pre-existing so they would not cover the air travel. The condition that caused him to not be able to travel was an infection, not a hip replacement. He had recovered from the hip surgery and was able to walk normally up and down stairs.
I do not recommend this company for travel insurance as they will find a way not to pay out on legitimate claims.

if you constantly find a reason to deny claims, then what good are you? and why would people want to purchase any product from allianz. I suggest contacting better business bureau against alianz and contacting your fiance department in your state who allows them to operate.

Thanks for your reply, Jackie. The infection is what caused the inability to travel and that was not a preexisting condition. He had sufficiently recovered from the hip surgery and was allowed to travel. The infection was a NEW condition.

Hello Mike -
Jackie from the Help Team here. Were sorry to hear about your brother-in-laws surgery, and hope his recovery is going well. Further, we apologize we were unable to provide you with coverage in your situation. I dont know the exact details of your case, but please note that travel insurance is like any other type of insurance in that there are terms and conditions that determine if a claim is payable, and unfortunately, the product your brother-in-law purchased did not include coverage for existing medical conditions.
Once again, we apologize that we were unable to provide you with coverage, and wish you and your family the best.
Regards,
Jackie, Help Team
