Evita from Allied calls to collect a debt. I acknowledge the debt and tell her I will pay in full by month's end.

She tells me "not good enough" and demands I give her a CC number or my routing/checking account info.

I told her no thanks and that they will get a check at the end of the month and ask for the mailing address.

She goes on to scream, litteraly, that I need to secure the payment with a CC or checking account or "the credit agencies will recieve a REFUSE TO PAY notice on your account, sir".

I explained why I am hesitant to give out such info over the phone.

She screamed again "Fine - I am only trying to help you, but if you don't care about your credit, then niether do I."

I explained that was not the case, but she yelled some other inaudible (she was enraged, and thus it enraged me) stuff and hung up on me.

I called allied back and asked to speak to a supervisor. the lady who answered to my info and transfered me back to Evita. I told Evita I wanbted to discuss the matter with a supervisor and she went on to tell me she would not transfer me to her supervisor "because unles you're calling to give me a CC number or your checking account information, my supervisor will not speak to you".

This time I hung up. I called back and finally got Jethro Richardson, a supervisor, on the phone.

He defended Evita and said I was being hostile and that "it's no wonder she hung up on you." I was enraged even furhter.

I know I owe the money. I was willing to pay them and even told them how, but they insisted on getting more of my personal information than I was willing to give up. I have had Identity theft issues in the past, and even told them this. But to no avail.

They kept badgering and badgering until I finally screamed back, hung up and logged on here.

#2Consumer Suggestion

Send them a letter, certified mail, stating that you will deal directly with the original creditor and that you do NOT deal with collection agencies or junk debt buyers. Also indicate that they are to cease contacting you telephonically at home or at work and they are not to call neighbors or other third-parties, as they have your number and that would not be "locator information." Let them know that you will take legal recourse if they fail to comply.

It is admirable that you want to resolve it, but when you pay anything to a collection agency, it seldom will come off your credit, not to mention that if the debt is beyond the statute of limitations, you start the clock ticking again. Also, the original creditor will usually not see a dime.
